That seems most likely.

I was hoping the Hollis and South building would move ahead faster than it has. There are also empty lots along Hollis south of the Vic Suites, but I don't know who owns those. Barrington and Kent/Green is another site.

The Alexander could theoretically start I guess. Right now seems theoretically like a great time to start a development like that.

Looks like the Morris house will be relocated to 2500 Creighton Street:

Good but not as good pizza as Morris East. This plus Amano gives this neighborhood too many pizza choices.
If they're using a proper Neapolitan oven, their advantage will be speed. They'll be able to crank pizzas out in 3-5 minutes.

I heard today that Studio 21 is going into the VIC. Anyone else hearing anything? I'm not sure if it is a relocation, or an expansion...

likely a relocation. Would be expense space for a art gallery one would think.

The Vic Suites look pretty good in this photo. I also like the new (to me) Cunard statue location. There is still a long way to go but I think Halifax has a lot more nicely developed outdoor places like this than it used to.

For such a historic structure, you'd think they could find a better use for it then turning it into slum housing.

I think it's great that they managed to save the house. This is a good example of how it's possible to support new development, heritage preservation, and affordable housing. It's also an example of the Heritage Trust doing something constructive instead of just fighting new construction. I think they'd be a lot more effective if they chose their battles a bit better.

I was thinking about this the other day -- this end of Barrington might have a long way to go, but it has already come a long way.

When I was a kid in Jr. High, this was basically a problem area. People forget that South Barrington was pretty sketchy in the late 80s (probably before then too). You had prostitution in a lot of that area, there was still a heavy industry presence, and places like the park in front of the Westin was not exactly safe at night.

Oh, and the Lighthouse Strip Club didn't help things either. Not that I'm adverse to Strip Clubs themselves, but they can attract the seedier element.

Well, the Lighthouse has been gone for something like almost two decades now, the industry in the area has been pushed further back, and a lot of these new developments are going up. Everyone remembers the problems with Gottigen and the North End largely because... well, those problems are still there to large degrees. But I think people forget that this used to be a problem area as well that seems to have been turned around so the downtown can expand south.

Back in the 1950s or so even the upper blocks below the Citadel were not quite considered "downtown". Once the Nova Centre is built that area will have about the same level of development as the streets below Barrington. In the same way, the distinction between Spring Garden Road is getting pretty hazy. It's got fewer office towers but in a couple of years it will be just as built up as locations a block or two away from Hollis and George Street.

In 10-20 years I could see the downtown area growing into some new areas like the first few blocks of Gottingen, Queen Street and Fenwick, and Spring Garden Road near Robie Street. What I mean by this is that these areas will have mostly medium-density buildings and intensive commercial uses, and lots of people will walk to them from other parts of the downtown.

It is the edge of the Citadel Hotel Reconstruction at Brunswick/Cogswell, looking north.
