Hollister, San Juan Bautista, CA

Clearly I have a lot of time on my hands. But, with my house on the market, I've been having to vacate my home regularly while my realtor holds open house. What better way then to spend the time than taking pictures?

Hollister, CA (pop 37,183)

San Benito County is south of Santa Clara and east of Monterey counties. Hollister is the county seat.

Not a terribly inviting hotel

Let's eat! Chinese sounds good!

Can't eat here apparently...not yet

Small town Americana

Interestingly, a Planned Parenthood Clinic across from a church...

San Benito County Courthouse

San Juan Bautista (pop 1,549)

Named for the Mission of the same name, this small little touristy agricultural town is about 10 miles west of Hollister.

Oooh....chickens!

This place has seen better days

What a nice and unexpected message!

My friends again! Good thing my dogs were in the car

Mission San Juan Bautista

This is Hollister? Wait a minute...where's all the t-shirt clad Abercrombie emo kids? I thought Hollister was like the coolest place on earth? *tongue planted firmly in cheek*

There's a couple of little cities worth photographing along the 101 corridor between LA and SF, particularly the mission cities.

What's up next, Casa de Fruta?

I was thinking the same thing!

Seriously though, San Juan Bautista is such a great looking town. I love how its just landed right at the base of the treeless mountains.

San Juan Bautista looks like it would fit in an old west movie. Never heard of it before, but it does look fun.

Isn't Hollister the place where the Outlaw Biker legend kind of started? Interesting looking downtown.

Thanks for the tour.

Yes, one of the murals I shot mentioned the biker thing. I didn't know that before I went there, but, there was definitely a biker "presence" in the town. Same thing in SJB. But, this is why it's fun to explore these places.

Hollister

What a shock/surprise to find Hollister on this site. I've lived here for about 8 years now (work in Monterey). You've captured downtown nicely as well as SJB. Next time, take a drive to Tres Pinos (about 5 miles south of Hollister). It's a quaint little town right out of the Old West with a Post Office, General Store, a church, Cantina, and a couple of restaurants.

Thanks for posting the pics!
