Nope, it'll be a full year the stadium will be built before the 2015 Pan Am Games.

If they're late they'll have to pay the Ti Cats hugh amounts of money.

Yesterday there was an official unveiling of Ryerson University's Mattamy Athletic Centre, which is the renovated Maple Leaf Gardens, complete with a 2500 seater hockey rink under the dome. It's incredible that after the threat of demolition, hockey will now be played under an Original Six arena again.

Pictures in the link below:

The dome above the ice:

The overall shot of the arena:

Of note is the seating behind the nets, which is an homage to the configuration of Maple Leaf Gardens:

Out of the original cathedrals of hockey, the statuses of them are:
Madison Square Garden III - demolished
Chicago Stadium - demolished
Detroit Olympia - demolished
Boston Garden - demolished
Montreal Forum - gutted, reclad to look like an early 90's suburban rec centre and turned into an AMC movie theatre
Maple Leaf Gardens - restored and the ground floor turned into a half-high end grocery store half-museum, and mostly an athletics complex with a hockey arena under the dome that saw 11 Stanley Cups.

I'm not sure you can call Maple Leaf Gardens a restoration; it's completely unrecogisable inside. I'm happy they've found a hockey-related use for it, though.

Damn I miss the Gardens. Ballard and the King sitting in their box conspiring together...drunk off their asses.

I more meant the outside of it as the restoration part.

For those who don't know, they cleaned the brick on the outside, replaced the windows and framing, took out some of the awful Ballard additions to the street level, and restored the original marquee from when MLG was new.

This was the marquee before the reno:

Amazing redevelopment of Maple Leaf Gardens! They really did a great job and the Loblaws in the bottom floor is really nice.

Also, I just realised this, if you want to judge exactly how high up the current ice surface is, look at the 2 pictures of the interior arena of MLG before and after. The top row of windows on the net side in the old picture is the row of windows behind the net in the new, and the bracing for the dome is visible in the corners of both as well.

Looks great, I think they did a great job.

Went to the loblaws there last weekend, its a jem. Huge selection and lots of great premade foods at the deli, bakery etc...

Also, they have dry aged steaks!

The first day of construction for the new Colisée in Quebec City is scheduled for next month and a huge celebration is planned for the occasion directly on the site of the future arena. To underline the importance of this event, 30 000 little blue shovels are being sold and a huge crowd is supposed to show up on site where the festivities will take place.

So awesome! that arena is going to seriously increase QC's chances of getting an expansion franchise. Now is only Halifax could follow suit.

As f'ed up as that whole building/financing process was, that's still my favourite Canadian Stadium. Sure, it needs some refreshing, but overall that design has aged pretty damn well. Someday I'll have to check out a Grey Cup in there.

The outside, yes it is fantastic. To me the inside always felt cold, sterile and unwelcoming. It made the Skydome feel like Wrigley Field.

COURT DISMISSES LATEST BID TO STOP OTTAWA CFL REDEVELOPMENT
8/29/2012 6:20:00 PM

OTTAWA - Ontario's highest court has ruled against a group opposed to the redevelopment of Ottawa's Lansdowne Park -- essentially eliminating the last legal challenge to the $300-million project.

The Ontario Court of Appeal said in the decision released Wednesday that it will not hear the appeal by the Lansdowne Park Conservancy.

It ordered the group to pay $1,000 in legal costs to the City of Ottawa.

The group had argued in a lower court back in March that the city had committed an abuse of practice when it awarded the project to the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group.

But the lower court disagreed with the conservancy and awarded the city $10,000 in costs.

The group could continue its legal battle by taking it all the way to the Supreme Court, but there's no immediate word if it will do so.
http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404104

This is fantastic news! Hopefully the group doesn't waste everyone's time trying to take this case to the Supreme Court. It would just get laughed out of there anyway.

That is going to be one sweet Bomber Stadium!
Perfect prototype for the CFL (are you listening Sask, Hamilton, Ottawa?)

Just wish it was close to Downtown.

And at 40k it's a little on the undersized side for Grey Cups in my opinion... Both times Sask has hosted so far we have put in 50-55k seats.

Without a doubt. I intentionally didn't mention Calgary because they are not in the process of designing/building a new stadium at the moment.
Also I would like Calgary's to be in the 40 - 45k range (slightly larger than the Winnipeg stadium).
