Looks like it's been transplanted from Toronto. Which isn't a bad thing.

feels more like something from Hamilton than from Toronto. Will this be the first big building in Niagara Falls that isn't a hotel?

I'm not sure if there are any condos in any of the current hotels in Niagara Falls, but the River Road Development and the Loretto Fallsview Development both have condos and they have both been approved as far as I know. Both of those developments are probably going to start before The Grand Condominium Hotel, so The Grand isn't likely to be the first.

Update & Location

An update on this building. The location is on the corner of Dunn St. and Stanley Ave at 6609 Stanley Ave. The building started construction in the early 2000s and was suppose to be an elegant 30-storey Crowne Plaza hotel. Plans called for a 30-storey tower, along with a 2,700-square-metre convention centre, restaurants, shopping area and three levels of underground parking. The concrete for both the underground parking garage and the hotel's plaza/base was built. A tough global economy resulting from the 9/11 terrorist attacks and a decline in tourists visiting Niagara Falls meant that Rudan Holdings Ltd. couldn't get the financial backing they needed to get the project finished. Construction was stopped in 2004 and never resumed. The property has since been sold to Matas Homes who are going to be completing the building with their new plans for the Grand Condominium Hotel.
