All of these shots were taken since Hurricane Ike hit the area 10 days ago.
I would have posted sooner but I didn't get my power back on until this morning.
Corrugated...
Impromptu post-hurricane fence.
Dismember the Alamo!
The two Chase Towers. To the left, the old Gulf Oil Bldg. The right, originally Texas Commerce Bank Tower.
Absolutely fascinating! Ill be down there in about a week for a geology convention and my parents are still living down there in Kingwood. They say they will still be without power for another week or so! Have they pretty much fixed up downtown by now?
Oh, it's like a dagger through the heart to see my favorite trees in the entire world (Live Oaks) beaten so harshly by the storm.
How did the beautiful Live Oak tree canopy around Rice U hold up during the storm? Were a lot of the trees uprooted or snapped in half? How about up in the Woodlands? How'd the trees up there fare?
A friend of mine in Houston messaged me this evening and said he'd just gotten his power back on Monday evening.
How did the beautiful Live Oak tree canopy around Rice U hold up during the storm?
That photo is from near Rice. The tree canopy on Main Street near Rice never really recovered from Hurricane Alicia in 1983. That is the storm that did so much tree damage to that area. Before Alicia, the trees on either side of Main Street actually touched over the street.
Wonderful pics. I can only hope that IKE did some major damage to Weingarten's new development on West Gray! Maybe Mother Nature cares about preservation more than a Houston-based company!
My sister lives near North and South Blvds. She said those streets held up fairly well but my Mom told me Memorial Park trees took a beating.
Great pics. It's weird seeing live oaks destroyed. I guess the ground became so water logged they couldn't stay up? Live oaks almost never fall or break in storms. Around here they're the last trees to have trouble since they're such a dense wood. I see the pine trees took a beating as usual.
And it's crazy seeing half the windows on the Chase Tower blown out on that side.
