When will they start putting in the big ribs that stick all the way out of the ground and form the main structure?

When they are done with all the underground and street level work. They still haven't installed the steel beams for the Hub at the Greenwich Street side.

Not for a long time. Like RoadCruiser said, the underground work must be completed before the "ribs' are installed. The ribs are attached and supported by the underground steel.

WOW! this place just keeps blowing my mind!!! don't know if I should call it a sculpture or a building. What an experience it will be to walk through it when it's completed.

What's truly amazing is the engineering that goes into this. These components are so incredibly custom. It's an a rarity to see something complex like this built in North America.

No, while half of the ribs will get attached to B1 ceiling and half to the B2 ceiling, the two steel arches surrounding the skylight will be the responsible to carry and spread every load of the ribs, until that happens they'll have to be guyed.

The first two large east/west spine spans will go in first then, Otie? And then be guyed until the north/south ribs are connected?

Just want to make sure I understand correctly.

Is it just me, or is construction of the vehicle security center moving at an extraordinarily slow pace? The circular steel lattice structure has looked virtually unchanged for three months...it just seems to be moving at a snails pace. I thought they were racing to finish this in order to avoid delaying WCT1 opening?

I don't know how you can say that. here are two pictures of the site. One from 3/13/2012 and the other from today 6/13/2012. There appears to have been a tremendous amount of progress.

I'd say the fixed arch will go out first, but I don't have that type of info.

Looks like the Greenwich Street area is finishing off soon. All the cement work appears to be done now. They're now adding dirt on top of it. I guess that's one of the steps they need before they lay down blacktop. (that and crushed gravel)
