A good friend of mine had an appointment to attend to in the city of Alameda, a place I have never visited before despite the fact I work five minutes away in downtown Oakland. So, I decided to tag along and take some photos.

Cool shots, stepper. As I do when I'm there, I keep staring at the amazing view in your last shot. I of course love all the shots of Alameda itself, but that view is so commanding.

Yes, I'd always wanted to go to Alameda simply to see the view of SF, but, was pleasantly surprised by Alameda too. My first impression was terrible as the traffic driving down Park Street rivalled anything I've experienced in SF (part of it might have been we were late for my friend's appointment). However, once I got out of the car and walked, I found Park Street and the surrounding area to be VERY pedestrian friendly. It had such a good, neighborhood feel to it, people driving by waving at friends on the street, people out for an afternoon walk or having lunch, etc. It was great!

What I didn't get a picture of was the fabulous art deco inspired entrance to the Webster St tunnel going back to Oakland. Absolutely beautiful!!

Yeah, that portal is really cool. And the place definitely has that "community" vibe. I was surprised by the quality of the built environment: both the commercial areas and the many quality victorians and other styles of homes. It's a really interesting island. I have high hopes for the former NAS.
