I don't mean to sound like an ass or anything, but this has to be good news for our city.

Architect Lucien Lagrange retiring, firm files Chapter 11
By Thomas A. Corfman, July 15, 2010

Architect Lucien Lagrange is retiring as his firm files for bankruptcy protection.

One of the city’s most active designers for more than two decades, Mr. Lagrange, 69, says the firm filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors Wednesday as a way to wind up its affairs and prevent him with being saddled with company debts after he stops working.

Has anyone heard anymore information about The Admiral at the Lake being built on the northside near Foster and Sheridan? Last I hear in June they announced that they planned to start construction this coming fall around the time the new Dominicks will be finished.

^^^ Thank God, now we just need to BK Anotivich or whatever his name is. How did LaGrange mange to go BK? I mean he had plenty of commissions and its not like architecture firms have much in the way of expenses/debt. He must have been charging incredibly low fees which would explain why so many developers used him.

The article makes it sound like it's a accounting trick to close out everything so he doesn't have to deal with creditors in his retirement.

I'm mixed on this.

I was/am more than tired of the PoMo designs that have come out of this firm, but I will also state that I love Erie & Kingsbury on the Park.

Let us all remember that it was this firm that drew up the plans for the new tower for the Intercontinental Hotel. Whether the ever go through with that expansion is another matter, but I liked that design.

Well, hopefully whichever talented architect not named Lucien Lagrange that was responsible for this design will be able to continue his or her work at their next firm.

Exactly. I thought we had long since established that Erie and Kingsbury on the Park were the work of an underling who either left on his/her own volition or was fired?

Passed it today walking home, was wondering the same thing. Looking through the fence I didn't see anything promising.

The Dominicks is scheduled to be completed in August, so this should be soon...

Construction's ground to a halt because of the union strike.

I knew this guy and many of his employees...

He is declaring bankruptcy for the same reason he designed schlock and treated his employees like sh*t... he has absolutely no integrity.

What strike? I've been in LA for a couple weeks for work and have no idea what is going on. Why are they striking?
