Maybe its time, with all the new site prep, impending starts, and new proposals, we work on redoing the front page.

in that case, that's interesting. i vaguely remember some other west loop elliptical plan proposal that never went anywhere years ago.

in any event, prepare for the WLCO conniption fit when they see this.

What's with the completely blank facade facing toward the Loop? That will look horrible.

curbed has this up also:

Almost five years have passed since ground was broken on Waterview Tower, but it sounds like work might finally continue on the stalled tower. Over the weekend, Crain's reported that developer Michael Reschke (who just developed the new JW Marriott) has reached an agreement to buy the unfinished 26-story structure from a group of lenders. Reschke wouldn't divulge his plans, but unnamed sources told reporter Alby Gallun that he plans to complete the originally-planned hotel in the building's lower floors and build offices on the upper floors. [Crain's]

It definitely needs work though. Take a walk through sometime and you'll notice there's problems.

I think it's just the way the glass rendered. At least... I hope it's not blank.

God I hope thats true! At this point I dont care about 90 stories, or 1000+ ft, just finish that ugly p.o.s. somehow. If it has a hotel (shangri-la?) and offices on top of the 26 floors of parking, then I consider that a win.

^ guys, we already have a dedicated thread for the former waterview hulk where this news is being discussed. there's no reason to duplicate the discussion in this thread.

link: CHICAGO | Clark & Wacker (former Waterview site) | 30 story conc. hulk, what's next?

I interpreted it as the curved glass windows with the light reflecting off of it, sort of like the Trump tower. I couldnt imagine someone being that crazy to make a blank 50 story facade, but who knows?

Yeah - it's just the rendering. Zoom in and you can make out the fenestration.

Guys its pretty obvious that rendering is not trying to depict a blank wall towards the loop. Its quite clear to my eye that its just a massing rendering of the building with none of the glass textures applied. Even so you can still see the pattern of the fenestration quite clearly in the image.

Additionally there is no way in hell that they would build a blank wall covering a huge section of the building let alone the very section with the best views.

I assume that the OP was in reference to that square punch out on the right. I imagine that is probably just an ornamental punch out that probably hides balconies or some other less-than aesthetically pleasing feature of the facade.

Sorry, I didn't mean that it was inaccurate (I know its a lot of work to maintain) as much as we're in a new decade and era now, and maybe its time to put the "boom" and our mega-achievement list in the filing cabinet and start a new list.

From my understanding both Sono East and LSE Tower A were undergoing site prep.

I can't imagine it's blank. No developer would build a tower on that site without apartments offering views of the skyline (and bits of the lake). And unless I'm way off in judging the size of the footprint, there's no way that there are only apartments on one side of the building either.

It must be fully leased by now, or close to it. Besides Mariano's, they have Three Forks, Fifth Third Bank, and an Eggsperience (I think, or some other breakfast place).

Also... why is the elliptical tower just coming out now? We've known about it for awhile.

^^^ Because Crains just reported they are looking to move forward with the project now that lending is starting to loosen up a bit.
