Reusing the old lumber. I wonder why the beams had such separation at the top of the columns, looks like the load was totally on the bracket

^^^ It appears the beams had separation so the next vertical member could stand directly on the column below it.

Oh come on now, it's not that bad. I am actually all in favor of it as it looks more bronze along the lines of Hancock or Sears than it looks gold like that trump tower.

word. there's a huge difference between the bronze tinted glass seen on JHC and the straight-up gold glass seen on that trump abomination out in vegas.

AMLI - River North

Harryc .... thank you for the construction updates. I always look forward to your professional work.

Now that it appears that AMLI is under construction, will it be given its own entry in the construction section. It may well be the tallest building under construction in Chicago at this time.

OK sought for 22-story office building across from Old St. Pat’s

By David Roeder and Fran Spielman Staff Reporters November 7, 2011 5:22PM

...The proposal comes amid tentative signs of a recovery in demand for offices. A report on the market by CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. showed that in the third quarter, downtown office vacancies were 14.3 percent, the lowest rate for the last seven quarters.

In hopes of better times, developers have begun teeing up properties for the next round of new construction. One site in competition with the Old St. Pat’s property is just a block away at 601 W. Monroe, where Fifield Cos. plans a similarly sized office building...

I think that the Coast is actually the tallest at just under 500'. There are several right in that range though.

agreed, but the Sedgwick project appears to be the evil kind, mainly since it's not contrasted with large metal spandrels like the masculine Chicago classics.

there's no way for you to convince me that it's "the evil kind" for that reason alone. contrasting bronze tinted glass with "large metal spandrels like the masculine Chicago classics" may not be the only fashion in the universe to de-evil bronze-tinted glass.

^^^ Agreed. Also, I don't think bronze glass is inherently evil. I think we don't use enough of it to know that. In fact, I support architects using as many different textures, shades, and colors of glass as they can in our fair city. Just look how striking 110 W Superior (or whatever that blue thing is) turned out with what is a very flamboyant color. I would be thrilled if this turned out as striking amidst the sea of painted concrete that is every highrise in Chicago north of Belmont.

WTF

Half a block from Gill Park and two blocks from the Lake is not being short on green space.

We should be able to kick people out of Chicago whom we don't feel are worthy of living here...

Golub plans South Loop apartment tower
By: Alby Gallun November 08, 2011

Chicago developer Golub & Co. has agreed to pay about $6 million for a city-owned South Loop property where it wants to build a 35-story, 392-unit apartment tower.

The $111-million project at the southeast corner of Ninth and State streets is the latest entrant in a downtown apartment boom spurred by rising occupancies and surging rents. Developers this year have already broken ground on seven downtown apartment towers comprising more than 2,800 units.

^^^I'm guessing at least a 5 story parking podium with 30 floors above it. It will be a decent addition to the area though.

Thank god that lot is finally in the hands of a competent developer. Except for the lot south of University Center (who owns that one?), we will soon have continuous development on State from Roosevelt to North.
