The Admiral website does it's best to not focus on the crown/pinnacle detail.

Its hard to get a good sense of what this will look like once completed because the renderings that are out there aren't very detailed. The base is being clad in a beige color brick and actually looks really nice in person. It would be amazing if that was the fate of the entire facade!

Well what makes it Deco isn't necessarily the detailing as much as it is the massing.

Yes, that's true. The massing has been established and gives a nod to the deco setbacks. I was interested in how the crown would relate.

I do like the crown, very "deco-ish". I just wish it was a little larger. I hope to see more pieces like this Admiral at the Lake in the future.

FYI the Admiral my appear to be topped out but it is not. The main shaft is topped out, but they still have 3.5 floors to pour on the west wing of the building. It's really neat how they are doing this modularly. They topped out the main tower and left the floorplates overhanging where it would join with the West Wing rebar hanging out and all. Now they are pouring the west wing's floors and tying them in with the protruding rebar.

The Goudy Square project became the mid-rise 65 E. Goethe building by the celebrated architect Lucien Lagrange. It’s an undeniable asset to the neighborhood and a home to some prominent families.

He said the Gold Coast has a history of rallying against unwanted development, referring to early 20th century campaigns to prevent the widening of the drive and the elimination of Oak Street Beach, today an unthinkable proposition.

“Was it worth it? Of course,” Hedlund wrote. The area’s proximity to downtown, devotion to preservation and its lower density have made it one of the finest urban enclaves in the country, he said. “At night, with your window open, you can still hear the hoof beats of horse carriages returning to the stable west of Wells,” he said.
Who could possibly think that the Gold Coast between Clark and LSD is lower density?

Yeah, I gotta imagine it has density similar to the densest parts of New York, because the built form is so similar (high-rises lining major streets with skinny rowhouses along side streets).

the census tracks in that part of town generally range betweeen aabout 56,000 / sq mile and 66,000 sq mile. The densest is about 93,000 sq mile.

In comparison Manhattan writ large is about 64,000 sq mile

Video of the tower crane at K2

Shot video earlier today of ironworkers adding two sections to the 238-foot tower crane. It's at YouTube.

It's an unusually tall free-standing tower and I doubt it's complete. It will become a crawler later in the project.

I'll be back there tomorrow for more shots.

Thanks for the video, Joe. That crane operator certainly has the touch.

This might be old news, but the B and L left BKL. And it looks like a BL website is up.

Just and FYI.

Link please? When you google a possible B and L website, you still just get the former, with all three..
