I voted 9, but thought about 23 and 11.

If I'd bothered to enter, I'd have submitted

2 is very nice, but it doesn't focus enough on the tree.

I'm a sucker for coconut trees at sunrise.

A great group of entries. #7, #11 (Is that Crater Lake?), and #15 all jump out at me.

I'll go with #7 - great lighting, nice sky.

Great set. I like 2, 7, 8, 11 and 24.

I think I'll go with 24. But man, it's a close one.

And that's the biggest mesquite tree I've ever seen (number 8).

So that's what kind of tree it is. I was wondering.

They grow in dry warm climates. It's rare to see them that large though. Most of them in Texas don't get past 20 feet tall and usually stay shrubby. A few do get large. There's one big one in my neighborhood one street over. They can suck though, because they have thorns on their branches that can be up to 3 inches long. They can be a problem for flat tires. They're also popular in Texas for barbecuing with. The wood burns slow and evenly since it's a dense wood. It's also popular for furniture building.

So many beautiful photos. I had a hard time choosing between 9 and 24. I went with 24.

Wow, thanks everyone! I never expected to win, especially considering I don’t even have a real camera (just a little canon powershot). That tree in my picture is a bristlecone pine. They are the oldest living things on the planet. This one at Mt. Charleston wasn’t really that old when it died, but there is a living one close by that is said to be over 3,000 years old. At high elevations, the forest is full of these beautiful gnarled and twisted trees sculpted by the wind and time. It's a very surreal landscape.
