The last photo of 221/225 W57th covered in netting looks promising. If you're in the area, can you take one of 220 W58th at the back of the site?

Why are those buildings netted? Are they planning on tearing them down or something?

Yes. That's the future site of Extell's other 57th Street project which has about 30% more air rights than One 57 does.

I'll pass by that area again on Friday or Saturday. I'll remember to pass by 220 W58th and take some pics

Thanks. Please take some photos of Extell's lots on the north side of W58th (across the street from 220 W58th), which adjoin the back of 220 CPS. This area has a lot of development planned.

Well I may be massive, but I don't think it's fair to compare me to the One57 building.

And I'm going to be dieting soon, so there's that.

^^^ Looks good! I don't understand why lots of people oppose it. They said it is going to ruin Central Park and cause the grass and tries to die from the shadows? Bahaha! Seriously, this is Manhattan. Go to Brooklyn you old tree nimbys.

That seriously sounds like some arguments some people in Phoenix would give against a building like this...WTF NY?
And do they not realize that there aren't shadows ALL day long?
But that does bring a question to mind (that's actually on topic), what is the orientation of this building? i.e. does it face Central Park from the N,E,W, or S side?

The last time I checked, we still move around the sun, hence the shadows will move, too, meaning little to no part of Central Park will be in permanent shadow from this building. Am I wrong?

^^ nimbyism is the major religion in ny, not christianity. hence, all cats need sunlight, every minute of the day!

When will this rise high enough for a good view of the progress? It's getting harder to appreciate new floors from this low, nearby vantage point. Even though this is a project I love, I don't check this thread very often because it never seems to change.

Christianity certainly isn't the major religion in Manhattan, Brooklyn and large parts of Queens. NYC is the true "West Bank."

One idiot said in the comments on the "CurbedNY" website on an article talking about the Carnegie 57:

"ZONING ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF CITY PARKS SHOULD BE CHANGED SO THAT TALL BUILDINGS DO NOT CAST LONG SHADOWS INTO MAJOR CITY PARKS! It's better to have a tall building on any side of a city park than the south. This is a problem in Madison Square Park, Washington Square Park, and it will be a problem in the WTC plaza. Folks, we can't move the sun, so we have to be smarter about the zoning. "

What an IDIOT! Someone else said said "I hate it. It ruins the Central Park skyline." Umm, how does it ruin the Central Park skyline? There are already high rises where it is going to be built. Besides, more TALL skyscrapers means more the city will look good.
