Hands down the best breakfast anywhere! Huge omelet and homemade pan fries for $6 (not sure I would stray beyond breakfast items). I actually don’t even attempt to go on weekends anymore - way too busy. Usually go on a weeknight to have breakfast for dinner. And it “Bon's off Broadway” - a play on the NY theatres, which is why is has so many cheesy, crappy B-Movie posters everywhere, and also because it is a half block off broadway!

Yeah - the breakfast deal is great too - but the omletes/pan fries are huge, great, and cheaper than anywhere else - seriously - one of those and I'm good for most of the day.

Bon's Off Broadway has gone downhill lately, it used to be much better a few years ago, there are numerous other $2.95 breakfast joints around the city just as good but without the large crowds and waits (I'm a major greasy spoon expert ). That location is acutally their second, they were originally on Broadway and it used to be called Bon's On Broadway.

Thanks - makes sense. Where else would you suggest in east van? For the price, Bon’s omelets are pretty hard to beat, and the pan fries kick some ass too.

For breakfast on the east side? Everyone says Slickety Jim's, but I can't stand the cramped space and the way they put you in a feed line of tables. Impossible to move your elbows or have any kind of meaningful conversation (unless you want to involve the couples on either side of you).

Sebs is great, reasonable price and good food - looks small at first but guarantee you will be full. It's a little piece of Kits plunked down on Carolina St.

A little off the beaten path (Fraser & Kingsway, approx. 14th) is the Lion's Den, a sweet little African/Jamaican/Japanese restaurant run by a hilarious guy. It's got great decor, the food is ok, and it's cheap - 2.99 breakfast if I remember correctly.

After having written that, I think we're a little off topic here. . .mods, feel free to delete/move to a different thread. I must be hungry at work

east van eats:

- 4 brothers pizza on commercial is amazing
- boa chao - hastings at the top of the hill before renfrew
- Capital Hill Chinese - top of the hill (burnaby)
- Greek place (crystos?) on hastings just east of willingdon
- i love the poutine at that 50's/60's diner on commercial near the park

I thought that everything east of Main Street was Eastern Canada.

Not Eastern Canada, just the BC Interior. I stick by my previous suggestions and add Cafe Mogadishu - try this instead of Red Sea Cafe, right next door. They only have five menu items and only one is worth ordering but it's crazy worth it - the Somalian lamb dish is amazing and it's dinner for 2 for 8 bucks. Potatoes, saffron rice, lamb, salad, tea, and sauce. Delicious. It looks like a front (and very well may be) but don't be scared off. Worth it.

The problem I have with Jim's as it just seams like a gentrified greasy spoon - no surprise given the 'hood. That's why I like bon's - crappy furniture, messy and good greasy eats for cheap. I feel like I have to dress a certain way to go eat my crappy eggs at Jim's.

However, I do enjoy the brunch/omletes at The Reef if i feel like spending a few more $

The Reef on Commercial has a great vibe, much better than the one on Main.

Seb's, as mentioned, is a surprising slice of heaven in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, Slickety is pretentious hipster hell but still damn good food.

Aurora, just up the street from Slickety on Main, is a good, moderately priced meal. Haven't been to its neighbour and sister restaurant, Cascade, but it looks pretty from the outside.

Sushiyama, across from Kingsgate Mall, is some decent sushi in the area.

The Lion's Den was great until they raised all of their prices astronomically and got rid of debit (I hate it when restaurants don't have debit, such a cheap, inconveniencing piss-off). Ken is funny, yes, but having been their many times, my partner and I began to feel that his demeanour was a bit icier to us than to others, perhaps some old school Jamaican homophobia at work. Who knows. We got along better with his always harried and over-stressed Japanese wife.

Apparently Aurora shut down - surprising

Edit: From the Aurora website:

Habit Lounge is the sister to the Cascade Room - havent been to Habit, but Casacde seemed decent. Auroroa was down in that triangle north of broadway.
