The Future of Eau Claire Calgary

Hey all, this may be old news to most of you, but I just found this video by concord pacific:

Does anybody know what the company actually has planned for Eau Claire? I tried looking around the forums but couldnt find any information.

If the video is anything, something like the Guggenheim Bilbao, or the pyramid of the Louvre would be very nice to have in our Eau Clair area.

the first building that I know of is designed by Arthur Erickson, and looks like this,

The video definitely overhypes the potential of the building. No condo is going to be in the same architectural class as Guggenheim, or the Opera house. Never.

Nonetheless, the Concord project is really nice and done by a very good architectural team.

Are there any more buildings being planned? Will the waterpark disappear?

The public square will be redone with the redevelopment of the market site, which is not associated with Concord Pacific's project (and is actually a couple blocks away from that site). When this gets underway is yet to be seen though.

^Yup. Concorde just has the one building on the one site, which was posted above. The Eau Claire market/square etc. will be done by Harvard Developments with Kasian as the archtect.

There's also another development right beside Eau Claire called 'Waterfront' being developed by the Anthem group.

Hey thanks for the info guys. I actually saw photos of the waterfront plan not too long ago but didnt know it would be in the Eau Claire area. It reminds me of the Waterfront Footstep Terraces on the Rhine River in Basil Switzerland. A very nice addition indeed.

I think you are thinking of the East Village river edge revitalization. Waterfront in Eau Claire is the condo development happening directly east of the existing mall. Check the front page of the Calgary Construction thread for it.

I like the natyural style of the Bow riverfront pathway, but I wish we could have a short section of developed riverfront like the one in Basil (shown above) or some of the other European city's riverfront.

^That would be a disaster. The best aspects of the Bow are its exceptional water quality (by urban river standards) and mostly intact banks. I can't stand channelized rivers with concrete banks like those in so many European and Asian cities.

I dont know if it would be a disaster. Just a short short section would be spectacular (maybe 100 -200m). I stayed in Basil for a week, and every evening me and my friend I was staying with, along with many many many others (think in the hundreds for a very short stretch of bank) would gather by the river on the stepped banks to talk about anything that was on our minds. The views of their bridge were amazing, and funny enough, it drew many people in the town back to the river. They also have boat races where they use the steps as their personal theater like seats to view the event. Once or twice my friend said they have a giant screen too on the otherside where everyone gathers to watch a public movie. Lots of fun!
