Davis, CA

Davis, CA (pop 62,724)

Davis is about 20 miles west of Sacramento and home to UC Davis campus. According to wikipedia, in 2006, Davis was ranked the second most "educated" city in the US in terms of residents with graduate degrees. I don't know how true that is. But, Davis is a great city to walk around in (or ride your bike) with a very active, vibrant appearing "downtown". I am not entirely happy with my photos as the sun was getting low and it's pretty much a one story city. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

The reception is better in here...

What are you taking pictures of there Scotty?

Enough fooling around, back to the campus, which, in my option, doesn't have a lot going for it architecturely unless you like 60s-70s modern...or trees. I came here in high school for a college fair and thought it was nicer...oh well...

Some scenery...

Yah, I'll pass on that seat thanks...

Part one of our day, Colfax

...and not a single picture of Murder Burger! Blasphemy!

I like Davis alot. It isn't nearly as plagued with sprawl (though there is some) as some of the other cities in the area thanks to the Yolo floodplain.

Great city to bicycle around.

Interesting timing with this thread. Just 2 days ago I was looking up information on Davis on wikipedia and then I used Google streetview to check it out a little closer. I've gotta say this is a much better way to get a feel for the city than just reading about it or using Google's somewhat blurry streetview. Thanks for sharing!

The percentage of people who walk, bike and bus there is enough to make most forumers salivate. It is the model small town. Of course, I am very biased.

Looks like a great place to go to school or grow up in general. I like the waterfall shot!

Nice pics.

Davis is one of Northern California's closely-kept secrets--a leafy university town with a strict growth boundary, Craftsman homes, a solid downtown, regular daily commuter rail service to both Sacramento and the Bay Area, and a contender for the most bike riders per capita in the nation.

Looks alright. The houses seem modest, not that it's bad or anything.

Nearer to the campus, sort of west of downtown, there are some really nice, older, wealthier homes that are reminiscent of what you'd see in Midtown Sacramento. I was just trying to get to the campus before the sun went down and didn't take any photos of them. The modest homes are very nice too, my friend wants to move to Davis in the next year.

All the comments about the bike ridership is very true...going to the campus midday during the week the roads and bike trails are as full with people on their bikes as other streets with cars. And though I avoid people in my photos, downtown on a Saturday after was full of people walking around. Great city.

Nice pictures; I have always been curious to know what Davis looks like. A little more subdued than I was expecting, but seems like a great place to live none-the-less.
