They finished up fencing off the lot today. Kinda ironic that as they were finishing up closing off the site, other nearby lots were charging a premium price for the graduation ceremonies happening at Toyota Center.

From BigSky on HAIF:

Drove by yesterday, delivered diggers and bull dozers to the site along with dumpsters. It looks like the hotel is about to get kicked off.

So this should be finished by Spring of 2011. Just in time for the Final Four? They need to get busy.

Shouldn't this post be moved to the under-construction or is to early?

Still too early. Not until groundbreaking and even then, it could turn into a Chicago Spire situation but I believe this one will be started soon though, so no worries. They did start tearing up the concrete though from the parking lot so thats good news. Lets just wait for a foundation then its off to the construction thread! YAY

The park is going to be nearly surrounded by towers once this hotel is built. Way to go Houston!

Update July 06, 2009

I snapped these over the fence that is blocking the site. It looks like there was some other kind of structure there; as pieces are sticking up from the ground that appear to be old. I am getting excited for this project and the Allen Center 5. This project is a go, but Allen Center 5 is still a wait and see.

So it's officially underway? Time to move it to highrise construction then.

What's Allen Center 5?

Once work on the foundation commences, then this thread can be moved to U/C.

Not yet

They have only started tearing up the old parking lot for this site. Many things can still happen to stop construction, so it is not official yet. There is another site that was cleared, but has not been developed for two years. This empty hole in downtown Houston is around the corner from Main Place and the Chase Tower. The site is for a proposed Hines Tower that has since been named dead. Five Allen Center has another thread here under proposed; Five Allen seems likely to be built. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on this site as it heats up.
