nobody likes san francisco

part 2: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=165568
part 3: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=165611

The flight from Bellingham to Oakland:

Mount Baker

Puget Sound

Some mountain, any idea which one?

Coming into the SF Bay area.

Looking back towards Berkley.

Mountainside sprawl

Cliffside sprawl?

There's some beautiful geography around these parts.

Oakland

Stayed near Fisherman's Wharf, my first evening ever in SF:

My first time eating at In-N-Out; those are good burgers, dude.

Fire juggling

Fisherman's Wharf

Walked around the North Beach area:

I didn't take a tripod, so mailboxes and garbage cans were makeshift tripods.

Italian Quarter

Heading up Telegraph Hill

Coit Tower

At this point, there was a small scuffle with a really high/drunk Kiwi.

Next morning; sunrise over the Golden Gate Bridge:

Palace of Fine Arts

Chinatown

This thread only covers the first evening and the next morning of my trip... I still have a couple hundred more photos that I'll be posting.

Yeah, I got around.

Nice Pic! Yes, that would be Mt. Shasta, California, part of the Cascade Range.

Thanks everybody. I didn't realize I was already in California when I got a shot of that mountain, I figured it was somewhere in Oregon.

I just use Facebook as my photo hosting service because it's free, easy, pretty fast, and good for sharing photos with friends. I'd be happy to upload much larger versions (to Flickr or Imageshack) of any photos that you guys want, just not all of them.

So, any requests for a larger version of a shot?

Very nice. I just got back from SF about a week ago and need to go through my photos.

I tried one as well. I have to say, it did not live up to the hype. Five Guys blows it away.

The Counter in Palo Alto, however, did produce a memorable burger.

"Those are good burgers, dude" is just a Big Lebowski reference. I just thought they were decent. I wish I had gotten around to this "Five Guys" place. I did try "Taylor's Automatic Refresher" and was pretty happy with it.

Five Guys is an east coast thing that is spreading out from DC. AFAIK it hasn't reached the west coast yet.

In 'N Out is a fast food chain. The burgers certainly aren't comparable to any decent independent restaurant or burger place. But the burgers are made with good quality unfrozen beef and cooked to order by employees who are well-paid--with good benefits--and care. Also, all their stores are corporate owned--they don't franchise--so they can keep up the quality (I note that 5 Guys is now franchising--look for what you like about it to die). Compared to other chains, it's d*mn good and they have the best T-shirts anywhere: http://shop.in-n-out.com/innout/dept...0&dept_id=3003 . Wear one of their shirts always gets a grin from Southern Californians and makes them homesick. Plus you feel like a surfer dude.

In 'N Out just represents a little slice of SoCal culture (which is why the store near Fisherman's Wharf is the only one in SF).

OK--the pics: Excellent and I am really impressed with the night-time ones (even more impressed considering you didn't have a tripod).
