Very nice. I take it was a Sunday when these were taken? How is the clean-up down there from Ike?

Wow. One of the very few photos of this section of downtown that I've seen posted here. Good catch.

Those are some huge Norfolk Pines. We have one in a pot that must be at least 20 years old and it's only 8 feet tall. They're beautiful trees and are actually rare in North America. They can't stand much cold.

Very nice shots! It was a pleasant surprise to see some the older buildings in downtown Houston included in these pics. It's ironic that I just read an article online about how many of the older buildings in the downtown historic district have been revitalized in recent years. This particular article was mostly talking about how some of the historic buildings in the area of Main Street over near the Harris County Criminal and Civil courts buildings have been filling up with leased space in the last several years, with many of those spaces being law firms who have moved from some of the high-rise towers to these charming older buildings. Nice pics of Galveston too BTW.

Downtown Houston looks like the place to be. How expensive is an apartment there?

Fantastic shots as always! Is the Art Deco building in the third to the last shot in Galveston? I don't recall seeing it in Houston. Thanks.

In a good neighborhood close to downtown - $600-$1100/mo

That building is in Galveston. It's now called Shearn Moody Plaza. It was the former home to the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad Company. The original 8 story wing was built around 1915. The larger 12 story art-deco bldg was built in 1932.

The bldg. also served as the Union Railroad Station. Today, it houses a railroad museum and office space.

extremely cheap.
my ex lives in a nice (fairly newly constructed, central air, and has washer and dryer in unit) apt. that's about 1000 sq feet for a little more than 1000 a month, and it's downtown.

i pay the same here on the northside of chicago for a 200 sq foot apt. in a building built in 1923. and this isn't really an expensive city.

if there is one thing texas is king of, it's cheap rent.
