These are great. I never saw this Buckhead shot before. Thanks! I am surprised to see The Atlantic's finished crown. From a distance Ive assumed the facade hadn't been put on the crown yet. It looks cheap and insubstantial. At least The Mansion's crown doesn't look like a highway sound barrier. Atlantic's exterior adornments are somewhat regal looking but I cant believe Novare had originally planned on that crown for this flagship project. And how did we end up with the black windows? Blue would be so much better. On the upside it looks like Two Alliance's crown is going to be pretty nice.

More money coming to Atlanta, Emory name national cancer center. Expansion at Emory to come?
Well the article said nothing of expansion, and as a matter of fact, all expansions at Emory have been put on hold.

retail stuff...

West Midtown - 5 seasons brew house is finally back on track. Sign went up this weekend. Next door to 5 is a new liquor store, or as I guess we call it down here, a "package" store.

Smoothie King and Jersey Mike's are almost open at 10side.
Room & Board has a "coming soon" sign at white provisions.
I know it's not skyscraper sexy, but a Public Storage building went up on 14th next to progressive lighting. They did a b+ job of making it fit with the vibe of west midtown.

If you haven't been by west midtown (especially the intersection of Marietta and Howell Mill), take a stroll. The new 7 story condo building is coming along well, with some interesting facade choices, and a formerly shuttered building has been renovated with tenants in the process of moving in.

Uptown - There is a new store or gallery going in next to Kobe at Dewberry's building. It was called something like Helen Kare....any info?

Buckhead - On Pharr Rd. there is a new (but not yet opened) men's fine clothing retail op going in @ 321....XYork. This replaces sweet repeats. I think they left because the tenants below them were too loud...how do I know this? I was that loud tenant...(School of Rock).

Does anybody know if Novare plans on doing anything with the Atlantic parking deck. It looks hideous.

The side fronting 16th is suppose to be have condos built similar to the ones that already line the road. I'd imagine that the rest will be painted and left exposed? Eventually, the side facing the parking ramp entrance should be covered by other buildings built b/w the Atlantic and Market St.

I respectfully disagree. The Mansion's crown looks unfinished to me - like they ran out of money. The Atlantic's is better than I had expected.

Anyone know why the webcam for The Atlantic has been stalled for weeks?

The Novare property on the southeast corner of West Peachtree and 14th Street is for sale. Originally they had planned a condo tower to replace Einsteins Bagels and the buildings along West Peachtree. The sign said "both corners" for sale, so the lot on the southwest corner which was supposed to hold the Ritz may be for sale as well.

I think it's safe to say Novare finally got it right, nice crown! But as far as the Mansion is concerned......don't even get me started.

The Atlantic's crown may look like a highway sound barrier, but at least it doesn't look like a wooden fence. Which (if you didn't get it) is what the mansions crown looks like.

Does anybody else really hate that instead of using the base of the Mansion to hold the retail, they built that 2 story box in front? Honestly, i think they ended up doing a really shoddy job with some parts of the mansion

I agree, they should have fronted P'tree with the hotel itself, that box looks as out of place as the Charles Schuab office in front of the Hyatt...ugh!

Ditto...

Anything happening with the MO? Last I heard was that another MO property was folding (maybe burning), so people speculated that investors would make a move toward the Atlanta MO...Is that way off base?

I am deeply disappointed in the Mansion crown ! A taller Art Deco style gold crown really would have made this building. I was really expecting something simular to what I saw in the rendering. I still love the over all design of the tower though, just not the crown.
Here is an old rendering of the Mansion which was not the chosen design. The angles are alittle different.
[IMG][/IMG]
The angles and architecture of the shaft of the current design remind me alittle bit of the Bear Stearns Tower in NY...... just alittle though.
