The Calgary Development Rumour Thread

Other locals have this thread to post rumours on projects that have yet to be announced, and other unconfirmed information that pertain to developments such as the possibility of a project being cancelled or put on hold or something, before it happens if it happens.

This is not the same as the construction thread, this is only for rumours and speculation.

Well this one is in the pipeline but not happening yet, The Morrison on 14th avenue SW just east of 1st Street:

I believe it is around 24-25 stories.

Recession may be on full swing but that does not mean all projects are stalled or canned.

A Massively significant development planned for 3rd quarter 2008.
Okay if it was 2006-2007 terms this would of been just a "big" development.
Its almost a million sq.ft, several buildings including a tower and demolition will begin next month, 3 1/2 buildings will be removed, its close to an LRT station and the expectation of project scope is to be "iconic" in Calgary standards.

Third quarter 2009 I mean.

^Wow, short on details (location could be lots of places), but still sounds promising. Thanks Bokimon.

He said that the development includes a tower but 3 1/2 buildings will need to come down, which makes sense since the Herald Block will need to be demolished along with some other buildings. Herald Square is also right next to 7th Ave so it's near an LRT. However, Herald Square is rumored to be 1.2 million sq ft which is a little over Bokimon's description. My money is still on Herald Square.

^Also, herald square is a Cohos Evamy project, not the firm that Bo works for.

Ah, I'm still a bit confused as to whether the development is a single tower, or several buildings. At any rate, I think if Bokimon specifically mentioned "close to an LRT station" that it is a non-core station. When describing The Bow or EAP, you wouldn't include the descriptor "close to an LRT station."

Another thing, people are surprised EAP is rumoured to be going ahead in this economy. Herald Square going ahead in this climate would be unheard of.

Wouldn't mind being proven wrong though.

My guess would be Beltline actually - maybe the the remainder of the Keynote block with those little buildings coming down? Maybe even the tourism calgary building across the street to the north???

Come on Bo, spill the beans!

hard to say, renderings for above the first few floors haven't been released yet. Supposedly it looks very similar to Bay-Adelaide (both Brookfield).
