Honestly, does it really look like he's trying to dent Denver's supreme status? I don't think anyone of the unique "SLC" breed is trying to dick-measure with you, Denver, or Phoenix. He's just looking at it from his perspective, and from where we're standing, Salt Lake is seeing lots of changes which he described; it is the choice for many companies which are looking into or have already located here. He (and I don't think anyone else is) isn't trying to say Salt Lake is superior to bigger, "more important" cities.

I have not read any articles proclaiming slc the new gateway to the West. Denver still has and shall continue to carry that moniker for the foreseeable future. A few truck companies? Delta at slc airport is a good feather in the slc cap, but not in the same category as DIA.
Wow, we hear (by the way, this is how the word is spelled. I thought you might correct it after asking the question three times) all the time about how Salt Lake forumers are hypersensitive, but I think this is concrete evidence that forumers from other cities can be just as hypersensitive.

Just by way of clarification I believe that actually St. Louis has the moniker "Gateway of the West" (hence the Gateway Arch) and Salt Lake has had the moniker "Crossroads of the West" at least since 1869 with the completion of the transcontinental railroad. I don't believe that Denver actually carries any such moniker. As a side note I am not questioning the importance or size of Denver.

Might want to clarify which word you are referring to at the very least.

The most hypersensitive are the Phoenix posters though. But pretty much everyone gets all defensive about their cities all the time in these forums.

So SandSailor, just judging from your post count, did you actually register here just to ask Delts that question? That seems odd. Or were you banned and this is an alternate account?

You lost me. Banned for what? Asking a person who has yet to respond to provide links or data to back up a claim? Wow. Maybe you people are overly sensitive. It was the most simple of requests, and now we are at the point of asking if I was banned before? Maybe I should leave you guys alone. Not here to upset anyone. Just looking for a little data is all.

Peace

Trucking companies love Salt Lake. There's a whole row of them along 21st South. But they're not going to build 40-story corporate headquarters downtown.

Guys, can we please not bicker and argue, it really takes away from the threads.

I doubt the Salt Lake threads are the only place this is happening. With less development going on throughout the country I'm betting there is off-topic discussion creeping into just about every city thread. It is possible to hold off reading threads for a while without leaving a storm-off in a tantrum comment... there are a number of people who have done this recently, so I'm not singling you out scrapernerd.

The problem is that there are posters that continually bring in low class off topic material regardless of how much development is happening. I joined this site because I enjoy watching new developments come to life, particularly that of tall buildings. Even though I'm relatively new here I'm already tired of all the personal agendas being played out. That doesn't stop me from visiting however since I'm hooked on T-Macs picture updates, but it does stop me from wanting to participate further on these boards.

U. breaks ground on new pharmacy facility

The University of Utah College of Pharmacy has broken ground on a new research facility.

The $69 million building will be the new home for the college, which is currently housed in six buildings throughout campus. The building will be called the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute.

The new facility will be next to the existing pharmacy building, L.S. Skaggs Hall. The hall was built in 1965 and is named in honor of L.S. Skaggs Sr. The entire complex, including the current building, new building and connecting glass atrium, will be named for L.S. Skaggs the son.

The institute also will provide a new home for the Utah Poison Control Center.

Ground was broken at the university Tuesday.

The University of Utah College of Pharmacy Ranked #2 in the Nation.

Yuck!

Unsustainable and a threat to our drinking water!

Also notice the campground; don't people usually go camping to be in nature, away from development?

Why Utah may be chosen by companies looking to expand their influence in the West.

We're close to the Pacific North West but not in the same kind of economic turmoil that they are.

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=7513014 Also our economy failed worse then expected but we are one of the better states in the nation right now. Our unemployment is lower then Georgia's and Oregon's before the recession hit!

It will be nice when we see this kind of foot traffic on this section of Main Street again!

Yeah, while generously taking every opportunity to shed a negative light on most of those people, and their beliefs.

Well, I guess I'm just not the type of mormon who feels welcome, or enjoys living in that environment you create.

You can believe what you want, you don't even need to respect anyone who is different than you. You can think "others" are damned or going to Hell. Just don't try to prevent anyone from being treated equally under the law. You can withhold benefits of Mormondom, if there are any, from anyone you want. but you can't withhold liberties or civil rights from a United States Citizen! Furthermore, we can share common ground, as Citizens of the United States, but only when there are no 2nd class citizens. 1st class citizens and 2nd class citizens do not share common ground. Currently, your religious leaders, and you by default, are fighting the possibility of common ground for all Americans. So stop it! Help out, and make room for everyone at the table.

It was just odd to be a new registered member and then immediately start demanding answers from someone on an SLC topic. You just don't seem to be acting like you're 'new' here. Anyway.

Well, if I were a business owner looking to expand in the West, I'd probably do it in Portland where they have more available workers because of the higher unemployment.

I think that would be a mistake. You would have to analyze whether the high unemployment rate is coming from other factors such as high taxes, excessive regulation, high energy prices or excessively restrictive land-use policies. While going to a state could provide some attractive short term benefits from cheap labor, it could be a big negative if the states fundamentals aren't business friendly.
