I have noticed how shitty our lane markings are ever since I went to Japan and Europe. The only saving grace is that they are better then most other areas in Canada I have been.

I am really excited about this! Wait, wait.......... 72nd interchange??????? SFPR interchanges????????

First thing that popped in my mind.

SFPR better be getting those interchanges.... They're highly needed, and while they've paved a bunch out by 176 STreet and stuff, delaying the project by 3 months to have proper interchanges is well worth it.

And, maybe, just maybe the Southern Connector to connect Highway 99 with Highway 1 by Abbotsford. Or, Highway 1 widening out to the Valley, past the Gateway project that ends at 202 Avenue. 700 million goes a LOOOOONG way.

They're already heavily investing along the Roberts Bank corridor with new railway overpasses at 152 Street, 192 Street, and 196 Street in Surrey over the CN Railway south of Highway 10 to make all crossings essentially grade separated.

With regard to road markings, those water based road paints don't work two hoots. Oil based should be used. Safety > Environment in this case.

Although, I must say, two of the suggestions I've given to the MOT have been enacted over the past month. I asked for reflectors on Highway 1 all the way to Hope. Done, and I asked for a border delays sign for drivers coming from the Interior through Chilliwack on Highway 1. Also, Done.

These organizations do listen sometimes, at one of the Evergreen Open houses I was talking to a Translink rep that they should use some native flora in the landscaping, and I pushed for the Arbutus tree to be tested / used, 2 months later, 3 new Arbutus trees planted at Production Station. Connected, I don't know, but I like to think so

Yeah, $700 million goes a long way. I have an inkling that a majority of funds will be utilized for the Highway 1 corridor and these possibilities include:

1. A section of phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon (since phase 3 is all but completed);

2. Further improvements between Kamloops and Golden;

3. 6-laning east of 216th St.;

We shall see.

Excellent news.
I have to agree that they listen to the occasional piece of good advice.
I suggested the name Evergreen Line
(And my dad accepted the prize (stainless steel travel coffee mug -- a dozen or so people suggested the same name) claiming that he was the one at the address that suggested it while I was out of town )

These make a lot of sense, but how about an interchange or two for the SFPR? Or maybe, just maybe, that full-movements interchange Delta is demanding for 72Ave / Hwy 91?

Van Dongen (Abbotsford MLA) jumped ship to the BC Conservatives last week, and who knows maybe some highway infrastructure upgrades through Abbotsford from the BC Liberals may save grace for the party, since I know the City actively supports 6 laning Highway 1, and I'm sure the majority of residents would as well, for easier access into Metro Vancouver. Plus, there's that by-election in Chilliwack/Hope later this month.

Really wonder how strategic the timing of this announcement is with regard to the politics in the Fraser Valley over the last week and upcoming few weeks.

Apparently an additional $25 billion is also required to be invested in Pacific Gateway by 2020.
$25B? Without a huge uptick in resource revenues (in a province that's becoming even more polemic regarding resource development, if that's even possible by now), who's bank account can afford the extra taxes required?

Nearly all of this $25B is to be funded by the private sector... Sounds like a lot of it would be rail and port infrastructure...

B.C. rolls out new $700 million road, rail plan

Read it on Global News: Global BC | B.C. rolls out new $700 million road, rail plan

...
However, the $700-million commitment is only a small part of the transportation strategy, which government sources say will include another $24 billion of transportation-related investments planned by the private sector between now and 2020.

I think it would be a good idea to have a Gateway 2.0 thread to talk about this rather than in this thread. It will be completely separate from the PMH1 project.

Another note for those who ride on Lougheed Hwy like I did last summer, since bicycles are prohibited on the new overpass.

I think there was at one point... something called "Gateway Version 2.0" when there were hints at a highway 99 rebuild being discussed. Heck, I think I even created an H-99 Fantasy Thread a while ago, but its probably dead.

The location of the announcement (Neptune Bulk Terminals in North Vancouver) means something must be happening in my neck of the woods, I would think. The upgraded upgraded Low Level Road has $50 mill coming from the Feds and the rest is supposed to be paid by the Port/CN.

Premier Christy Clark has unveiled a transportation strategy that targets $25-billion dollars worth of projects across the province, but very little of it will affect your commute.

....

Premier Clark did announce $700-million from the government. "Part of this is a $700-million investment that the province will be making in road capacity and other areas like that. You will see a further breakdown of that in the coming weeks."

lane markings were horrid in Alberta in general the 5 times I have been there.

When I was in Saskatchewan they were near non existant in Prince Albert.

London Ontario left a lot to be desired, as did Toronto when I was there last April.

Quebec is the worst I have ever seen though. Especially around Val d'or.

Here's a little more clarification about the 700 million:

Quote:
New provincial investment of $700 million over the next five years to increase capacity on key Provincial highways to support trade.
http://www2.news.gov.bc.ca/news_rele...034-000406.htm

With the SFPR done by next year, who knows - Highway 10 (Glover Road) widening out to 232 Street. A new 232 Street interchange?

Highway 1 widening out to Abbotsford/Chilliwack/Hope?

Highway 1 widening through interior BC for traffic congestion and safety improvements?

I wonder if the bulk of it is for the final phase of the kicking horse project?

Also, 72nd interchange!!!!!!!

And, 1 or 2 more interchanges on highway 17 from the Swartz Bay to Victoria would nice as well (to continue the eventual goal of making it fully free flow).

Is 72nd the last stop light on HWY 91? Would be superb to eliminate it!

There's also a fairly low train bridge between Glover & 232 that could use replacement.

Maybe that New West ped bridge could be speed up through these new funds?

Ps is the entire $700M "new" money? Or is some of it past promised?!
