NYC, Paterson, Newark: from atop a mountain

The Garrett Mountain Reservation is located on one of the ridges of the Watchung Mountains in Passaic County, New Jersey. They are primarily composed of volcanic basalt and were formed in the prehistoric rift valley of the Newark Basin. It's about 500 feet tall, which passes for a mountain around here.
We'll start with Paterson...

Far north end of Paterson. The Nabisco building in in Fair Lawn.

Central Paterson. On the left is Eastside HS, famous for principal Joe Clark.

21st Ave area

The infamous Alexander Hamilton housing projects, one of the major drug distribution points in North Jersey.

Passaic County Courthouse dome in central downtown

Spring Street building next to I-80

Neat blue factory

NJ Transit platform on Market St

This is a random 24-story office building in Orangeburg, NY, just north of the NJ border. It's about 15 miles away. Hudson Highlands and possibly Bear Mountain rise behind it. The forest in the foreground is shading the wealthy suburbs of northern Bergen County, NJ.

SE over South Paterson towards Manhattan

Passaic, NJ to Midtown

Part of Jersey City

Passaic and lower Manhattan

Passaic and Secaucus. Spot the Manhattan Bridge

Pacific Street in South Paterson

Passaic to Midtown

Downtown Passaic in foreground. Visible beyond are the Meadowlands Arena and the hideous new Giants Stadium in East Rutherford.

Old Giants Stadium visible

The Ailanthus Tree is my favorite plant

A street in northern Clifton

Newark, 14 miles to the south. The two residential hi-rises in the foreground are near Route 3 in south Clifton

Garfield/Lodi with Fort Lee skyline on horizon. In the left part of the skyline you can see the George Washington Bridge towers

Hasbrouck Heights in the foreground, the western slope of North Bergen, and then the Upper West Side

The Verrazano, which has to be over 20 miles away

Newark. You can see the control tower at Newark International at the right

Hackensack's tri-segmental skyline

Peeking over the Palisades, you can see the Bronx's two tallest towers.

Paterson, NE towards the Hudson Highlands

Off the mountain, driving through downtown Paterson

EXCELLENT thread. The New York tri-state area is like its own little world (that's not so little).

Great visibility that day! Must've had northwesterly winds blowing through. Thanks for a different perspective of NJ/NY.

It's good to see NYC's satellite cities featured here. As we can see Paterson appears quite dense, containing an array of structured, scrambled within each other. Very good set!

Great zoom shots Thundertubs!! I never realized that the topography was that intense so close to NYC. I always thought it was further west near Pennsylvania! Thanks!!

It's part of a larger office complex called Pearl River Plaza or something.

It's sort of an edge city near the Palisades Center mall.

These shots are really amazing. I need to do more exploring in this general part of Northern NJ.

The building is part of Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River, NY. It is in a stereotypical suburban town and it towers over everything. In fact, I can see it from my window right now.
