I don't have it in front of me, but I read (in the Herald I believe) that the only access that the City is legally obligated to provide is the one at 37 St / Anderson Road. Anything else is basically at the City's pleasure.

By far, the majority of the wetlands in the prairies were drained for agricultural purposes, not development in the sense being discussed here. As you yourself should be aware, living in what used to be a 100km wide swamp 200 years ago (unless you're up north in The Pas or Thompson or something, but I'll play the odds here).

If feeding people (and providing the entire recorded history of where you live until very recently) now deserves the quotes on "progress", well, hand in your computer and go live in a tent on the open plain if you dislike modern society so much.

Besides the fact that no one, not one single person is talking about draining, damming, or diverting one single drop of water from the Weaselhead. The only discussion point is putting some bridge pylons in it. You can't even compare this to what was done in Manitoba, where hundreds of square kilometers were drained for agriculture. Or Europe, where just about the entire continent has seen the same. These are 2 completely different things, with only a single word in common: "wetland".
