We've been talking about trying to get the kids down for an earlier nap, in order that we could come check out the opening. We'll see if that happens.

I'll be there tomorrow. probably sporting my blue Buffalo Sabres cap. easy to spot as I've only seen another young man sporting one in my 3 years here (@wurst - I high fived him)

I'll be wearing our YYC shirt to celebrate Calgary though as our peace bridge shirt would probably attract the wrong element

I may or may not make it down. I have a four-hour work meeting to go to and then will be free, so maybe I can make it down around 3:30ish, as things are beginning to wrap up.

Well today is the day! Bundle up, forecast only calls for 1 degree.

I'll have my shirt on, but that will most likely be underneath my red jacket, I'll also be wearing a grey/black toque. Keep an eye out for me and say hi!

Some of you will find this amusing. One of my most recent pics of The Daver made Explore on Flickr. I've never had a pic make Explore. So I'm quite chuffed with that.

That pic was going viral on twitter around the YYC folks yesterday too, even saw someone that said it made the perfect background on a smartphone.

Great shot Ramsay!

In other news, I'm thinking of being a man and putting on a bunch of layers with my Peace bridge shirt on top. Since it was a little large I figure I can pull this off.

Thanks Bigtime and Airboy. I'm still chuckling about it. At least I'm on record for saying I like the bridge. My issue has always been with The City and it's location.

Anyway, I might head out to the opening, but I suspect parking is going to be a bitch.

Nice shots, Ramsay.

When is the event on today? Still a game-time decision for me.

2pm - 4pm, but be there for 2pm as there are some festivities that start then.

I'll be there with my family. Pretty excited actually.

Some Instagram photos here...

Gotta admit, I was expecting the inside of this thing to be a little higher-grade....the pathway itself looks a little underwhelming.

Well, I like the birdge itself; its nice and wide. I'll have to try it when there are fewer people on it. Lots of people at the event.

The paving was one of the things they sacrificed to keep costs down. It was originally granite.

Definitely shows. Having walked Calatrava bridges in Venice an Bilbao, one of the things I liked the most was the see-through pathways.

Oh well, I guess you have to make compromises somewhere. The rest of it looks pretty great....can't wait to see it in the summer with some landscaping.

Pretty cool event - glad I went.

Edit: What was the deal with the religious extremists? Smart publicity-grab I guess. Crappy for everyone who doesn't want the message.

Here are a few pictures I took:

Please excuse my pretty basic camera and the limited angles. I had a 2.5yr old in tow, and she was getting a pinch cranky as it was nap time.

Think I saw two protesters who were looking a little sheepish, having been outnumbered by several thousand! People were really very excited. Was very impressed with the turnout.

The ultra-low helicopter flyover was very cool! I think the view out of the 'eye' of the bridge heading South is soon to become iconic. Eau Claire Tower will look pretty hot from that vantage.

Was a little annoyed by the religious extremists, but they became noise in the grand scheme of things.
