I've been following it for nearly a year and managed to score a beta key. (Read the comments in their blog posts, various game websites will give them away) I'll try it out when I get back home and give a small review. (Mind you I'm not very good at these types of games)

Didn't know there was a thread for this here.

From what I've heard it'll be a massive disappointment. I'll probably end up getting it anyways though.

Yeah I've followed it since it was called Cities Unlimited. Back then it held so much promise. I was hoping for a replacement of SimCity 4, but it looks like this will not be it. It's odd how nobody can seem to get better than SC4.

I haven't really read it much over the past few months, but from what I gather you'll have to pay annually for all the quirks like transportation (& this will get you online play), on top of the price at the store. It just will cost way too much. I think it'd be around 70-100/year to operate the full game. Not 100%. It's dumb, and it doesn't look like an overly aweome city building game. A step up from MC's other game, but no SC4. Plus you can really master-plan with SC4 however you want with 1000s and 1000s of free software from sites like ToutSimCity, Simtropolis, and SC4Devotion.

I couldn't even get into the beta, by the time I managed to install the game and register with my key (Remember I was away for a month) I couldn't log in, and the one time I even had the option of playing offline it said the beta was over.

I never intended to play online, I want to have resources and whatnot and build infrastructure and see what happens. That's about it..

I've just finished playing my 1 week demo of the game. It's decent, but will work better when my new computer arrives next week. My current video card is a POS with it and the Tropico 3 demo I've been playing as well. The only thing that didn't seem to work well for me is the resource trading screen. I'd love to have a new version of SimCity, but I'm not holding my breath.

Apparently there won't be mass transit unless you pay the monthly fee for online play. Without transportation, I'll stick with SC4.

its an alright game, it really bothers me that you can only trade when you have a positive cash flow. I have a really cool city thats at 1.2 million and because I invested in education I can't trade because I'm in the red. I only have 305 million dollars banked. I'll post screenies when I can figure out how to finish growing my city, and yeah, its really dumb that I can't have mass transit unless I'm willing to pay a monthly fee.

I get caught on pollution and not having enough tokens to trade for what resources I need. I'd like to be able to control pollution like I could in SC4. Having enough "Leisure" to keep the citizens satisfied is becoming a pain in the ass. Still undecided on whether to buy the Planet options or not.

No doubt the visuals are impressive, but I just can't bring myself to buy a city building game that doesn't even have buses (I probably wouldn't go online).

No mass transit or even railroads are big faults with this game. I played the same map as ummagumma66 and mine was more gridiron and less organic. Adding the seaport was an incredible pain in the ass. There aren't any interchanges with the expressways, and I haven't built a city big enough to get highways to see. I would like to buy the Planet offer, even for a couple of months, but not until I see what they are going to add.
