>Treasure trove of stolen booty from the worlds largest empire...

I'm sure you're saying this with pride, but one must note that a few of those former colonies are trying to reclaim their stolen treasure...and this escalating conflict is not just happening with London's museums but also at the Met, the Getty and the Louvre..

A new book that tries to examine both sides of the issue: http://www.amazon.com/Loot-Battle-St.../dp/0805086536

I don't know. Should original possessors of said objects, like Egypt, really repossess them when the museums will be taking "better care" of them and their security? On the other hand, when so many of them are bitter legacies of imperialism and colonialism, well...

Im not saying it with pride - I know the politics of the pieces - but saying it as it is.

I for one can see the stolen goods from my own ancestral country there - China, including some of 700 ancient statues decapitated from the Longmen grottoes to be used as paperweights in the West. Also my partner is Greek, and can't bear walking into the Parthenon Galleries - i for one would support a return of many of the relics.

Not any more, it basically holds massive temporary installations in the Turbine Hall each season (except for August when it's empty). It was the main space of the former power station.

Trust someone from London to post images of London galleries (tut!)

.... any way, back to the UK's Second City, BIRMINGHAM.

Halcyon Gallery

Ikon Gallery

Soho House

Aston Hall .... anyone heard of the soccer team "Aston Villa"? ... well, maybe not!

Selly Manor

Cadbury World

Barber Institute of Fine Art, Edgbaston, Birmingham

View looking back over West Birmingham from Edgbaston

It's hard to believe some of those medieval buildings are hidden away in the metropolis that is Birmingham ....

Yeah my ex-neighbors son Randy Lerner owns them and spends more time focusing on his Primiership team then his hometown Cleveland Browns NFL team, what a joke. Nice museusm though.

Am I the only one who thinks that endless image clutters in a single post actually lose the focus on the issue? PLus: What have images of chocolate and stadiums to do with the theme here....

Please concentrate on the core information everybody, please !

Berlin

Here is the newly reopened Neues Museum originally built in 1855.
It is part of the Museum Island which is a World Heritage Site.
The museum was heavily bombed in WW2 and not in use for 60 years.
The reconstruction cost were 210 million € and preserved some of the
ruin character making the building an artefact itself...
It houses a stunning collection of archeological items including the 3300 years old bust of
Queen Nefertiti, the most beautiful woman of all times....

Cadbury World in Bournville, Birmingham is also a "Museum" ... the chocolate image was just a bit of fun.

Aston Villa Football Club was also a bit of "fun" for a previous poster on this forum ...... oh, hang on a minute, I see where you are from .... not a lot of "fun" and humour there then?!

Any way, back to museums, galleries .... and fun .... not just artefacts on display, but the actual buildings too please Lear!!

And by the way ... there is a small museum at Aston Villa FC, so it probably does qualify to be represented in this forum!
