It seems that the night life is undergoing a much needed re-birth, what with the extension of hours to non primary liqour locations, and more places opening, we may actually start acting like a real city!

Walked past this place on Granville near Davie last night. Might be new (?).... looks like work is being done on it anyways.

Hi all,

I am relatively new to Vancouver and I am looking for a not-too-loud decent place to have a business meeting with somone around a few good brewskies.

Yaletown , Granville and Robson near those streets is best.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

The Granville room is probably a little more mellow then most other places along the main Granville strip. I believe people have posted some pictures of it a few pages back in this thread.

I can't really think of any decent places on Robson. Robson basically just has the standard Earls, Cactus Club, Milestones, Moxies restaurants.

I'm sure there are a few places in Yaletown but other forumers might know that area better. Subeez is alright for getting some drinks (it's on the edge of Yaletown). Although the last time I was there I was disappointed with the food that I ordered.

If you were willing to go to Gastown I'd probably recommend Chill Winston or maybe the Shebeen Whiskey House in behind the Irish Heather.

Irish Heather:

Chill Winston:

Anyone here been to the Elephant & Castle in the Marine Building? That could be another option.

The Cambie is hype. Of course, it depends on how important this meeting is; I wouldn't bring clients there.

Welfare bar? Nah, that's the Ivanhoe.

The Cambie's a backpacker pub at the bottom of a cheap hostel known for its cheap beer. Enough said.

BTW - I'd highly recommend the Irish Heather for what you're seeking. Chill Winston would work as well although it's a tad more loungey. Pourhouse and The Diamond are the latest hyped bars in Gastown, but I have yet to visit.

no like years ago - like when i was a young 20 something it was nothing like it is now - it made the hipster switch in the mid to late 90's when they changed the junkie hotel into a hostel

here's another bar that's opening soon. Red Card at the Moda Hotel. this used to be the old Duffering bar. they're going for that "euro-sports" theme.
i take it this will be the place to watch some world cup games...

It should be ready to open any time now, been inside and it looks incredible. No idea what they plan on doing to the exterior wall as it hasn't been touched yet but inside is practically ready to go.
