Doors, hipsters, punks, ethnic whites, anarchy, rowhouses, second-storey staircases, brick, sleet, greystones, cafés, linguistic politics, and industrial might - that about sums it up. The city has it all. One of my top 3 favorite North American cities.

Nice. I've always felt that Toronto and Vancouver, as nice of cities as they are, felt somewhat sterile. Montreal, to me, is the one big Canadian city that really overcomes this feeling I have. It's been a while since I was there, but these pictures really make me want to go back. Great set.

That's the kind of cornichons they slice and put in their cheeseburgers at McDonald's.
I'm not against it, we Gauls just usually have them far smaller and soaked in some sort of spicy vinegar with delicacies.

Nice thread of course, I wouldn't mind going there. Though they would call me an annoying stinky French for speaking with no accent.

I wasn't even sure if you were referring to the french or Quebec accents. Apparently you're not aware of how well entrenched Frenchmen are in Montreal's cool hoods!

Your accent or lack therof will go unnoticed.

^ Depending on regions, there are various accents in metropolitan France, of course. In Paris in particular, there's a local accent. But you guys are a little touchy about yours, aren't you? That's why I'm kidding.
You're right though, the French teenaged language tics/slangs are boring. Yet once we're grown adults, we usually don't use that kind of language or tone any more. Sorry if you guys have to hear that around you, it sucks. Meuf is much less elegant than our good old standard fille indeed. I think we all agree on this.

Wow King! You sure outdid yourself in more ways than one. For one thing, You managed to happen in on a historic warm spell the likes this city has never experienced in mid to late march. (now back to normal)

I'm glad you didnt take me up on a meet in a way because like you, I need my space to take it all in. I really enjoyed your apt portrayal of how quirky Montreal feels, even to its native sons and daughters. The carved oak doors or stone entablatures left to rot or brought back to their erstwhile glory is a story you will read on cities all over the globe, but here, in the late winter, it is more dramatically apparent; at least to me.

Nice tour. I see you paid a visit to my neighborhood. This café is 3 or 4 minutes away from my place, I go there all the time. I like that fact that you covered many boroughs with very few (no?) pics of downtown.

As a deeply provincial urban middle american, what I see is a little strange, and it's strange like this. I see elements of NY, and some other east coast mish-mosh, and some Chicagoey with the chunk a blunk block-a-blockist lean, and of course the mansardism and iron balconies I'm familiar with here in St Louis, but all in a big juicy big city alien froth-broth struttin' by itself knowhutumsayin' with weird smells ive never sniffed. Almost like a city my subconcious would put together, really, but much colder (New Orleans bounces around in my head a lot). I could see myself waking up and being all well no fuckin city has stairs that go that high on the outside of flats.
