A new decade, a new skyline

First photos I've taken of Austin this new decade!

I took my Raleigh mountain bike down to St. Ed's for these Friday afternoon. I just about froze on the ride back.

Nice. The Austonian and Frost have given the Austin skyline some distinction.

Great shots Kevin! Southside has some of the better views of the skyline! This St. Eds vantage point proves that!

You know, I always thought Austin and Sacramento were two very similar cities. Likely they still are to some extent, but the skyline expansion in Austin this decade has been nothing short of stellar. That little Monarch Tower is gorgeous.

Nice crispy shots Kevin.

I agree they are very similar, and the skylines were similar. Sacramentos proposals fell through while Austins got built.

Yeah, The Monarch is one of the nicer new buildings we've gotten. It finished construction last year and is apartments.

The tower's name is inspired by its design. The crown on the building resembles a butterfly with its wings folded upward. The building also uses LEDs to light the crown. The lights change color some nights, and some nights it stays the same color. They can also light it different colors for different holidays.

Here's the construction thread for it. I shot a video showing the lights changing color.

And a thread I did last year from the 41st floor of Spring which is a block away from The Monarch.

For some reason the Monarch is one of my all-time favorite buildings. I can stare at that building for a long time and be fascinated. It really does have a butterfly look about it.

Another great Austin skyline thread. The new tallest, Austonian looks like One Rincon Hill South Tower in San Francisco to me. Oh and the Monarch has got to be my favorite too.

Great shots. Austin is almost unrecognizable from what it looked like ten years ago. I'm not really digging the new tallest though. Looks pretty generic from this angle. Not really a big deal though.

Just wondering...Do you know what happened to the lighting to 100 Congress? I just miss the old night spectacle on the skyline.... Ah...
