Concrete puoring for the tower footings on the west (left) side complete. Tendon installation has now begun, and are now being installed in the east (right) side tower footing pads. Grout supplies and lumber have been unloaded from the flatbed supply truck by the Hitachi excavator. The drill that had been placed on the bench left by the partial removal of the ramp is currently being loaded onto the flatbed truck for removal from the site.

Watching the construction of the foundation has been a treat. Every day, there is progress to be observed. Today's activity shows the completion of the tendon installation on the east tower footing pads. Beginning preparations are being made on the west slab on grade adjacent to the three west tower footings for future pouring. Yesterday, this area was graded. Returning to the three east footing pads that had their tendons installed, the next step would be erecting the footing forms, installing footing rebar, then pouring concrete. The chute used for pouring the west footings is still in place along the 56St. fence for the future pour, perhaps by the same method using the excavator with turned-around bucket that was used to pour the west footings.

can somebody please explain to me what the deal is with the cladding? In some renderings it resembles something like the aon building but in this it has glass which i think is beautiful. So what will it be?

Interesting "Sky Garden" opertunities, (the 2 story openings) could end up very cool----could be a neat way to intergrate the nessasary "mechanical floor" devils.

Can someone explain how this thing is going to be built so it doesn't fall over. This thing just seems too tall and thin to work out. My guess would be that it is going to be a mix of old wtc like load bearing perimeter steel columns and along with a structural core, it also seems like the perimeter columns are going to be strongly connected to eachother with the same size steel between columns as the columns themselves.

This things will be enormous.

Here's a link to the engineering report.
http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/BS...de=ES571043069

The structure consists entirely of reinforced concrete(columns, core, sheerwalls, floorslabs), with the exception of some of the outrigger trusses on the mechanical levels. It's similar to some of the Dubai marina towers, particularly Princess Tower and Marina 101, although it will have more outrigger trusses.

I'm dying to see how this will look in real life. The rendering looks totally surreal.

One thing I'm curious to see if they've deeply researched is the affects of high winds on this building, as well as potential earthquakes. I know it's probably all been covered but it's something that I can't just shake off being worried about given how small a footprint this thing has. It's just so damn skinny! I would bet this structure has the highest height:width ratio of any building on the planet, save maybe clock towers, spires and the like. I can't think of anything else that is so slim!
