^ That's a neighborhood I've never understood. Prime oceanfront property - probably foggy a lot and freezing cold relatively speaking, but awesome views - and it's like little shotgun houses.

I've always wondered the same thing about Winthrop in Boston too. In both cases they seem rather run down.

Working class neighborhood, or it used to be, and yes, it's very foggy, windy, and cold.

Can we stick to lower elevation aerials, as opposed to satellite or near-satellite ortho images?

Apolgies for quoting the satellite pics, but the contrast here is quite illuminating. The first is a real central business district, with some very tall buildings, but not completely devoid of street level habitability. The second is a shameful example of urban design with a couple of trophy towers:

Winthrop is right by the airport. The planes fly so low it appears they could almost take your head off, and the area is LOUD LOUD LOUD! It's beautiful, but I wouldn't want a plane flying right over my house every 45 seconds. Also, it is not the most accessible area in the city. I'm pretty sure it is shaped similar to a peninsula, with only 1 way in and out. The more desirable areas of the shore around Boston are at least 10-15 miles further, either north or south.
