Thats a possibility, I have heard of some jurisdictions, in Europe and the such, that use that idea for speed cameras. They set up 2 speed cameras a few km apart down the road, record when you past the first one. If you make it to the second one too soon then you can get ticketed. I would imagine a similar set up for an urban area wouldn't be too bad.

Then again, why not just skip the middle-man and fire up a subway on Centre. If this was sim city i would of done that ages ago

Centre Street is an HOV lane. High occupancy vehicle lane...not bus only lane. Taxis, buses and cars with two or more people can use it.

North bound Crowchild on the other hand has a bus only lane on the shoulder past 33ave. And I see the police pull people over all the time on Crowchild for using the bus only lane

oh sorry, you want to change Centre street to bus only lane...very poor reading skills on my part

On that note, I don't think a transit only lane would operate very well on Centre Street. There are too many avenues/intersections, people trying to turn right on them would slow buses down.

They do not. Vehicles can only enter the transit lane to make a turn, or coming out of a turn. Just like an HOV lane. You don't force vehicles to make unsafe 2-lane turns just because it's a transit lane. This is easy to enforce, too - just don't have the cameras monitoring close to intersections.

At least this is how I've seen it in other cities. Not sure how practical it would be on Centre, because of how many side roads connect (basically every single foot of road is eligible for legal turning).

Hi, thanks for all the interesting comments. My beef is pretty basic: it's the SOVs that drive from downtown right to 20th Ave N in the pm rush without turning anywhere. The drivers who need to be there in order to make a right at one of the intersections are the lesser of the problem in my opinion.

Basically I think the HOV Lane is totally unmanaged and the City just hopes people will notice. If they don't "oh well at least we tried". Especially irritating because, if anyone recalls, when they redid the Centre Street bridge they also did road improvements on Centre itself right up to 16th Ave -- and THEN, when they wer done, they went BACK and added the bus bays so that the express buses could pass the #3s stopped at the local stops. I forget the cost but it wasn't insubstantial.

Martindale station is getting close to being complete. Most of the signage is installed and ready to go.

Saddletowne station isn't quite as far along, but still is mostly complete. Trackwork is progressing.

Mostly just the road crossings and track work to finish. It doesn't seem like it should take until fall of 2012 to complete the project. It really looks like they could open the extension late this fall if they really pushed hard.

The south entrance at Whitehorn Station could be open in a week or two it looks like. They were installing the barriers for the "zig zags" just before crossing the tracks today. The railings on the ramp are up, and all of the concrete slabs and curbs are in place. To open, mostly just the ticket machines and final fixtures would have to be installed, and the construction material would have to be cleaned up.

Work on the 64th Ave tunnel is once again started after being dormant since November. The finished Northbound to Eastbound ramp will be very nice, plus that will allow more than one lane of traffic to be able to continue through the light northbound. All that will be nice, as traffic has picked up a bit since the closure of Barlow Trail.

No idea, but as an interesting tidbit, steel-toed sandals actually exist.
