Just came back from the One Bloor site, and yes the Excavator is there and is the same style of Excavtor doing the work at ICE. i checked the grounds at the site to make sure no digging had begun, and this is confirmed. So the machine is sitting idol on the grounds. Not sure if all the permits are in place for digging to begin, but we should get some action here within the week or two at the max.

780 feet, 238 meters and 70 floors. Great Gulf went for an additional 5 storeys.

This will be the new landmark tower at Yonge and Bloor. Kinda finishing off a Tokyo Style Ginza right here in Toronto.

Febraury 15 - March 25: One Bloor (Great Gulf, 70s, Hariri Pontarini)

No building was more anticipated in 2010 than One Bloor, Great Gulf's relaunch of the failed 1 Bloor East project by Bazis. That previous project had its proponents (for its 80-storey height) and its detractors (for its underwhelming architecture), but it was a connection to the failed bank Lehman Brothers that brought that project down in 2009. David Pontarini headed up the redesign for Great Gulf, and an initial rendering in February led to a full rollout in March that dropped the height (initially to 65 storeys) but upped the design. The building still divides critics, but everyone was relieved that a swooping standout promised to replace an empty lot in one of Toronto's more significant locations.

Here are some future shots of the skyline from a Yorkville Perspective.

by wyliepoon.

Now that Aura is under construction, forsure, City Council will be under the gun by developers to allow more tall buildings in the Yonge and Gerrard Area. Alot of stuff will go up there in the future, as it will be hard for the city to fight height there for a while. And it looks like alot of the stuff there that is already standing, can easily be demolished to make way for bigger and better buildings.

Aura will change Yonge and Gerrard, and Yonge and College forever.

Even Yonge and Dundas will feel different with Aura looming over the place.
