Free downtown concerts bring music to the streets this summer

....

It will be the first of three concerts this summer. Called the City Motion Busking Series Concert, it is part of Rediscover Granville 2010, a free summer event organized by the city to revive the excitement and entertainment experienced on Granville Street during the Winter Olympics.

The concert also is part of a busking initiative led by Stokes, who's lobbying the city to allow buskers to play past 10 p.m. downtown and to use amplification.

Si I went to the Stanley Cup at Central City today in Surrey. They have all kinds of bands there and what not, the band I saw was, don't know the name, but it was a Newfy band or at least a Newfy music band. The were pretty good. The lineup to takes pictures with the Stanley Cup was around the block. The mall is extra busy today of course. then I went for a walk through Holland Park and they are currently setting up for a festival. I didn't ask but I suspect it's this years Fusion Festival.

Out of the booths that were at Central City today that showed this seasons free movies in the park. One was mentioned above, that being the Goonies. I didn't take a look at the booth and it will probably also be at the Fusion Festival this weekend. I'll take a look this weekend at what's showing if it hasn't already been posted.

Victory Square Block Party returns to Vancouver

By Gregory Adams, August 19, 2010

After last year’s forced sabbatical, the Victory Square Block Party returns this Labour Day weekend as the music scene’s unofficial end-of-summer bash. Fuzzed-out blues duo the Pack a.d. headline the free event on September 5, which also features local heavy hitters Makeout Videotape and comedy troupe Man Hussy, among others.

While a lack of volunteers sank the 2009 edition, many chipped in this year to show their support for the community-building event. “We were disappointed that it had to take a year off,” said co-organizer Sean Condon. “We saw what it meant to people to be able to come down to a public space and hang out for free.”

Citing the all-day event as not only a good chance to catch up with some local talent but as a great opportunity to meet people from the neighbourhood, Condon is beyond thrilled to spend a day in the park—just so long as the infamous sprinkler system that doused crowds a few years back keeps in check.
