Why are the demoing the top two floors? I cant imagine all of that rebar and whatnot just sitting out in the elements for years with no protection is good.

There are various methods for restoring rebar, including blasting the bars with dry-ice pellets(!), but who would accept the liability?

They need to demo the top two floors due to the change in configuration of
the columns for the remaining floors.

Allow space for transfers. Best to remove what currently doesn't make sense.

If memory serves, the vertical concrete on Waterview was 8k to 10k at that level. Demolition will be challenging to say the least!

^ Yeah I'll be fascinated as well as this project gets underway shortly with the demo phase and new/re-engineered transfer work that needs to be done first. I wonder how long demolition will take?

I'm getting excited for this project to begin. This one and the Staybridge shell......as they both can be good-to-very good projects in their own right, but also remove two lingering eyesores at the same time.

I really do hope though that Handel selects a great curtain wall system with high-quality glass - and Related gives them a budget that allows for this! I certainly do see the issues with the glass that SCB went with at 500 N LSD...

my beloved city where I learnt Highrise design and basketball. Hope the economy could improve and get this building built as planned currently. I sort of think Destefano design has its merit as well. Cantilever -- scary and exciting.

Would be cool to see this building back under construction. It is always sad to see it on the river when I go to visit the city.

Looks like work is starting up. Today there are 4 or 5 trucks/cars inside the gate and guys with hardhats are doing something with what looks like 2 x 4's up on the roof, perhaps mending the safety barrier.

I talked with a construction worker today who was able to confirm that work has resumed.

I walked past the site around 3am and even though I may have been a little drunk I did hear some equipment noises coming from inside and the site was lit up

They have some unit running in there that has an exhaust coming out of it
with a sign that says "HOT".

It may be some sort of dryer to evaporate or dry out the water that has inevitably collected on the lower levels.

Just a guess....
