PORTLAND, OR | winter sol

While the rest of the country seems to be buried in snow, by some miracle normally-rainy Portland has been pretty much sunny since the start of the year. Here is a tribute to this wonderful freak of nature:

"We put birds on things!"

This all too typical western ridge/eastern trough weather pattern is frustrating for me, but I'm sure most people in the Pacific NW are loving it. Looks like a fantastic time to be in Portland!

hey man, we may be vanilla, but we're a diverse vanilla -- we're breyer's natural vanilla with the bean specks, we're häagen-dazs smooth creamy french vanilla, and we're especially tillamook all local organic (is that USDA organic or oregon organic?) free range vanilla pod crisp.

good coverage as usual, dtpdx. bonus shots out the gorge, huh? might be a game changer, this one.

Oh, no. I hope you didn't take that seriously, sasso! I was quoting that now-infamous article from the now-banned thread that called PDX, Austin, and Minneapolis as being "white cities" with no actual diversity.

ha ha, it's all good king. i didn't catch the reference (nor that thread), but ... stereotypes always have their origins in the truth. besides, i was defending portland's diversity -- natural vanilla, french vanilla, organic vanilla.

believe me, moving here from a major east coast city, i always hear (from there) about how white portland is. and it is, yes, but it's not ALL white. my hometown (tyrone PA, an appalachian central PA town of 5,000) is 99%+ white, so portland's 78% is a veritable melting pot compared to what i grew up with. the 22% other is very noticeable, too, namely in the food and shopping options across the city and suburbs, but also in the ethnic pockets you find in any city. but yes, the white areas of town are very white, and getting offended by that is silly at best, insincere at worst.

also dtpdx: ha ha, birds.

awesome stuff man! Looks like we've had some of the same ideas, because a few of these shots are almost exactly the same as ones I've taken in the past week or two. Yeah, the weather has been pretty amazing lately (until today - seems like maybe we're getting back to normal).

I can't wait for the Sounders to continue their tradition of clown stomping the Timbers this coming season in the top tier.

That being said, this tread is pretty damn awesome, Portland is as beautiful as Snow White...
