When I woke up today, the skies were clear and blossoms were beginning to show on the trees. By the time I got to school an hour later, it was snowing. I think the rest of Metro Vancouver is back to normal, but SFU is still snowing..

SFU was snowing yesterday as well when I was up there. Cp;d air drains from the mountains and pools around Burnaby Mountain.

The best forecasts are usually from Environment Canada.

It was snowing a bit in lower parts of Burnaby too, and yesterday we briefly had some sort of sleet/hail.

Good news at least is it has been brighter lately and, despite being below normal, isn't really that cold. 9 and sunny for the weekend (if the forecast turns out to be correct) is not too bad, and would be above average in most of the country. Below-average non-spring BC weather reminds me a lot of standard East Coast March weather.

I just hope we're not in for another cloudy, 10 degree April.

Air Conditioning on the TTC today. Last week and a bit it was February.

This is so unreal.

16C in Winnipeg (17 at the Forks) this morning... and then they break their all-time March high with 24C. Imagine if this was March 30th instead of the 19th?
Quote:
Winnipeg reached its highest temperature ever recorded for the month of March, hitting 23.4 C Monday afternoon, according to CBC Manitoba meteorologist John Sauder.
The previous record high for March in the Manitoba capital was 23.3 C, set in March 27, 1946.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/...er-monday.html

This is madness... 2012 might be the end of the world after all.

Quote:
The ongoing March heat wave in the Midwest is one of the most extreme heat events in U.S. history. With so many records being shattered, it is difficult to cover in detail just how widespread, long-lasting, and extreme the event is, and I offer just a few highlights:

Winner, South Dakota hit 94°F yesterday, the earliest 90°+ reading ever recorded in the Northern Plains

International Falls, Minnesota hit 79°F yesterday, the hottest March temperature on record in the Nation's Icebox. At midnight this morning, the temperature was 66°F there, breaking the record high for March 19 (set in 1910) by 6°F. The low temperature for International Falls bottomed out near 60°F this morning, so low for today is (unofficially) the same as the previous record high for the date. This is the seventh consecutive day that International Falls has broken or tied a daily record. That is spectacularly hard to do for a station with a century-long weather record. The longest string of consecutive records being broken I'm aware of is nine days in a row, set June 2 - 10, 1911 in Tulsa, Oklahoma (with weather records going back to 1905.) International Falls has a good chance of surpassing nine consecutive records this week.

Most of the cities in Northern Michigan set all-time March high temperature records over the weekend.

Chicago, Illinois now has a string of five consecutive days of 80°+ temperatures...Prior to this year, there had only been 10 days in March with highs in the 80s in Chicago, going back to 1871. The last time Chicago saw an 80 degree temperature during the month of March (prior to this year) was over 22 years ago back on March 12, 1990 when the high temperature hit 81.

Adding to that, it's raining hard in Winnipeg right now. Thunderstorms, lightning and all!!

As if the term March Madness couldn't get any more appropriate...

20C and sunny! The official temperature was 20.1C so we once again broke the record of 15.7C in 2010 pretty easily. It's incredible to hear all the birds outside at this time of the year and to wake to a low of 10C.
The best thing about this historic March heat is the lack of wind.
Winnipeg for example recorded sustained southern winds at 50 km/h with gusts of 60 km/h while Montreal and Toronto had below 10 km/h winds. You can basically do anything outside without worrying about the wind. Perfection!

Yesterday was the earliest 20C+ day... well today is the second earliest ever.

This is really mind-boggling!!!

96 stations were above 20C
70 stations were above 22C
3 stations were above 25C

The Canadian warmspot was once again Fort Frances, Ontario at 26.0C.

Winnipeg tied the dewpoint record for this year with 17C.

BTW-This guy unwrapped his palms today.

Really we didnt even have winter. - But for summer to just start, BAM, like that at the end of February is surreal.

The longterm forcast for SoOn is just ridiculous.

Tomorrow 27 degrees, Today will be 25 degrees.

I've followed this guy on the Hardy Palm and Subtropical Board, amazing stuff. There are folks here in Windsor that grow palms and other hardy subtropicals also, including myself.

It's been so warm here the last couple weeks that Saucer Magnolias are all blooming, along with Forsythia bushes, much earlier than ever before. Many trees leaves are also now opening up, which is just so early. I worry about a possible freeze in the future that could do real damage to all this new growth.

It's neat to see that he can do that but his yard looks ridiculous. People should stick to native plants in their gardens for so many reasons.
