The Core: Almost done.

The Core is almost done. Here's a collection of pictures to show off the shiny new mall. I took a stroll around it the other day, and once the Devonian Gardens are completed it'll be arguably the coolest downtown mall in Canada......that's right I said it, the coolest downtown mall in Canada

The Devonian Gardens will go here. Should be really cool.

Green walls....very cool.

Behind the tarp is the area where the new Apple Store is rumored to go.

Wow, looking great. Hope they can land a few more flagship type stores like Apple.

The Core looks awesome! It wouldn't be that big a stretch to say it's 'Canada's coolest downtown mall'

The old Eaton centre was much busier though, it looks so quiet!

Love it!

The glass ceiling with the towers looming overhead is fantastic.

That's what you get when you purposefully make downtown parking rates unaffordable.

The core looks beautiful! I love how they have all uniform tables and chairs in the food court now. I couldn't stand all the old mismatched furniture.

I wonder if people have been avoiding it during the renovation.

Once they advertise that the renos are done & they're open for business again, it should become a Christmas madhouse like all the other malls.

I agree with JSB. I used to pop in there everytime I was downtown for an appointment, and eat some lunch in Devonian Gardens, but since the renos started, I've been avoiding it. Wasn't that interesting....but now, WOW! I'll totally make it a destination now (isn't that the marketing folks at the Core wanna hear: destination!).

I've been really impressed with the scope an quality of the renovations in the Core. Easily the nicest downtown mall in the country.

It hasn't been as busy since the renovations started, but once it is announced that it is finished, the crowds will come back.

Awesome pics!! Thanks for those. I was there yesterday at around noon...it was pretty busy. BTW they now offer free parking for up to 3 hours weekday evenings after 4pm and weekends and holidays. So my parking yesterday while I wandered Stephen Ave and the Bay...free.

I must admit this is a very sleek and modern looking “shopping experience”. What I personally like the most is the beautiful glass roof & glass walkways. Also worth mentioning would be the unique leaf covered walls. I’m a huge fan! This will surly put some pressure on Eau Claire Market “The local prison experience of downtown” to remodel or close down.

The mall is actually very busy during the day, the pictures were taken when the mall was first opening...~9:30am and some of the stores weren't open yet.

If you go to the Core on a Saturday during the day it's actually very busy, as parking is really cheap.

Yeah, the Core is SUPER busy all the time now for lunch. I go there about once a week and I can definitely tell it's getting busier and busier compared to when the renos first started.

The food court especially, I'm glad they found some different tenants other than typical fast food. I notice Thai Express, Koryo and Villa Madina (sp?) always have long lines.

Once Devonian Gardens opens, it will be the place most people go to walk around or chill out.

The Core is definitely one of the best new redevelopments of downtown.

I rather like "California Thai" I know of only one in Beacon Hill in N.W. Calgary but I can see this business really taking off in the near future. If it had a loction in the Core it would do amazing numbers. With Edo next door it draws just as many people if not more on most days, worth a visit in my opinion.

There was a tiny skylight.

The Devonian Gardens are a city operated indoor park, which prior to its closing for the massive renovations its undergoing was a popular place for weddings and just wandering around during your lunchhour.

I was there today, walked in took a look at the menu and walked over to Mucho Burrito. Nothing on the menu screamed try me for lunch. I would consider it for takeout dinner but the location would be way too far out of the way.
