maybe they want to show a show of force, i notice some people will see the uniformed people at stations and backtrack and buy a ticket or leave the station when they see the cops

the city might not want it since brentwood is so close and doesn't fit in with their plan maybe? i could see it being strictly office space with some retail at the bottom

That's a rather foolish reason though...

But anyway... perhaps that explains better the oddity of the concourse layout? or no?

But I thought fare evasion was super-low and the faregates will never be worth it...

Joyce Station bus loop is in a bit of disarray today as all the bus stops were relocated temporarily to other location for a day. Passengers, already annoyed by the delay caused by the track maintenance, were scrambling to find the location of the bus stops. There was no advanced notice at all.
Crews are busy dismantling the existing trolley bus overhead power line along Vanness Ave.
I believe it has to be rebuilt so the south side of the station and sidewalk can be expanded outward by a few feet.

Well thankfully someone's anecdotal information has empirically proven otherwise...

Do you think they are going to replace the wires? And if so, is there any point. I wonder when the last time a trolley bus pulled into Joyce Station.

EDIT: Wikipedia shows: Service

There is currently no scheduled trolley bus service to the station after the dieselization of trolley route #41. However, trolley buses may still be seen in the bus loop during the occasional unscheduled reroutes of trolley route #19.

wrt to the 41, my guess is that trolley service would not reach UBC, limiting the usefulness of the corridor.

I don't think the city owns the land. If I'm not mistaken, an insurance company owns it and planned to build an office there. Standard Life? London Life? Something like that.

All the panels at Gilmore are easily removable. Thus, when you look up at the roof at that station from inside, you can see it seems very unfinished. It's a shame, really, that nothing's been built there.

I think the wires only reach Dunbar.

Lol young'un. I used to take the 41 trolley in the late 90s, back in high school.

Don't think anyone mentioned this but in addition to the elevator they've closed down that entire section of Surrey Central that exits out to the rec center side. The only entrance is the stairs that go down to the bus loop since early this week.

I've seen as I passed by there on Tuesday. However, I didn't think of taking any pics atm because all I've seen them do so far is take out bricks and fence things off. If you want me to take photos of that however, ask me and I might do it... although in my opinion such pre-construction work is rather... mundane at best.
