News of this type of development occuring in Iraq needs to get out! Especially if a lot of the development will rely on tourism.
Are there other regions in the country developing at such a fast pace?

Very modern, very impressive.

Im fine, thanks! Sorry, dont want to talk about politics, just about those developements. In my opinion, and compared to developments in Dubai, which you said Kurdistan would catch up with, they look mostly like failed "post soviet" copies.

For example this one:
Quote:

"The Candle Hotel is a new level of contemporary luxury, style, design and cuisine for leisure and business travelers. Everything is designed for comfort and enjoyment of the sensory kind by our team of designers from Perspective Design.

Spread over an area of over 52,000 square meters, this hotel is a visual masterpiece of landscaping and architecture. The hotel consists of over 200 luxurious rooms and suites. It features several facilities and services ensuring the maximum of comfort and safety. You can either or get fit at the Gym or choose to unwind at the in door and out door swimming pool. The Hotel also has a prestigious ballroom for more than 1000 guests, ideal for gatherings, gala dinners, weddings, cocktail parties and business or social functions."
What i see is a strangly colloured commie block with lots of surface parking around?!
And that is actually one of the better proposals

Why are you developing American, French, Italian, German etc... Villages that effectively look the same, while you could develop something out of your own culture?

And, thanks for the report

i tried to change the title but i cant , you chose 1 "render" out of all other building and so on and want to compare it with a modern building ! there are 100s of modern looking building so comparing 1 or 2 isnt gonna make Kurdistan copy "soviet".

anyways , this is no place for politics please if you have something to say there are political forums .

cheers

God bless my beutiful Kurdistan, my most beutiful place in the Earth.

someone asked how many Kurds can afford shopping in the new malls. my answer is pretty a lot. for sure much more than for example people in cutry called Poland can afford (in the middle of europe, but de facto Vatican colony ).

Kurdistan has a chance to develope tourism - at the moment people from EU, USA, Australia and Japan - do not need visa to go to Kurdistan, so its a step toward encourage people to come and see the country.

There is one lady from Lebanon - she used to live in Dubai with her housband, but they were not happy there, so now they moved to Kurdistan. I hope she will enjoy life there more than in Dubai. but of course i understand that for every person their own country is the best place in the world. For us is Kurdistan and we want to share its beauty with others.

Kurdistan children's hospital | UC

Kurdistan children’s hospital project receives prestigious design award

Boston, US (KRG.org) – A new children’s hospital in Kurdistan won a prestigious international design award at a ceremony in Boston on July 9th. The hospital, which was commissioned by the Kurdistan Regional Government, will be the first in Kurdistan dedicated to the treatment of children.

The vision for the children’s hospital in Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan Region, was conceived by Dr Rang Shawis, a Kurdish paediatric surgeon in the UK. The project was initiated with the support of former Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and is now breaking ground.

Dr Shawis, who attended the award ceremony, said, “This award given by a body of architectural peers is a special recognition of the innovation and the design standard of the facilities. The hospital is a much-needed facility in Kurdistan. I wanted to use my experience and contacts in medicine to be able to give back to my people. In order to do this and provide a high quality care for children a base with international standard is needed from which to begin – the hospital is a practical way to actualise this.”

The award was given to Make Architects and is the first to be presented to a design for a hospital in Iraq. Mr Gary Rawlings, representing the project’s architects team at Make, said that he became interested in the plan because “Iraq has a high infant and childhood mortality rate and they don’t have a children’s hospital. This will be the first tertiary referral paediatric facility.”

The hospital will improve the standard of care for children in the Kurdistan Region. Construction has started and the hospital is expected to be completed by December 2013, and fully operational during 2014. Referrals to the hospital will be made by the Ministry of Health and children’s charities.

The complex includes a 120-bed main building and support buildings including a hotel, staff accommodation and a supermarket. The three-storey main hospital provides 56 single rooms, four 6-bed bays and 20 VIP rooms. The clinical facilities will accommodate three operating rooms, an emergency department, an imaging department, specialist outpatient clinics, a paediatric and neo-natal intensive care unit and a women’s hospital.

Make Architects received the award from the International Academy for Design and Health at the 7th World Design and Health Congress in Boston, US. The award was in the Future Health Project category, for hospitals that are yet to be built.

Hilton Worldwide set to open the company's first hotel in Erbil

September 8, 2011

DUBAI, U.A.E. & MCLEAN, Va., — Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of a management agreement with New York-based real estate developer The Claremont Group to open the company’s first hotel in Iraq, under its upscale, full-service DoubleTree by Hilton hotel brand. Comprising of 200 serviced apartments, the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil is expected to open in the flourishing capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan at the end of 2013.

Rob Palleschi, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton brand said, “Our company’s founder, Conrad Hilton, passionately believed in a vision ‘to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.’ DoubleTree by Hilton continues to respect and build upon that legacy today by providing high standards of service and creating rewarding experiences for travellers in more than 265 cities and 20 countries around the world.
We look forward to sharing our distinctively welcoming style of DoubleTree by Hilton hospitality in Erbil, which is quickly becoming another world-class business and tourism destination.”

Iraqi Kurdistan or the Kurdistan Region is a semi-autonomous region of Iraq. The ancient city of Erbil (Erbil) is the regional capital and also is considered one of the longest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Travellers can tour significant cultural landmarks like the Citadel of Erbil currently under restoration, which dates to the Assyrian empire and Alexander the Great. Lively bazaars,www.ekurd.netarchaeological adventures and commercial enterprise from more than 100 multinational companies are just some of what awaits Erbil’s visitors. The DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil will be strategically located on Erbil’s central thoroughfare, close to the recently expanded Erbil International Airport and the Ainkawa district, one of the city’s main retail and entertainment centres.

“Erbil’s commercial status is increasing year on year and the city has a growing reputation as an up and coming tourist destination. We have every confidence that the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil will prove popular with the growing number of business and leisure travellers,” commented Rudi Jagersbacher, area president, Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide.

Tailored for the needs of long-staying guests, the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil will feature a business centre, health club, swimming pool, eight meeting rooms, two restaurants and a lobby lounge and bar. Approximately 200 jobs will be created at the hotel and the company’s focus will be on employing people locally.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Erbil guests will benefit from the characteristic qualities found at the brand’s more than 250 DoubleTree by Hilton locations around the world, including the warm welcome of the brand’s legendary chocolate chip cookie presented to every guest at check-in; an array of upscale amenities and guest services; the rewards of the Hilton HHonors® guest loyalty programme; and a unique and caring team member commitment to the local community.

Stephen Lari, Principal of The Claremont Group, said “There is so much potential in Kurdistan and particularly the city of Erbil. We’ve seen travel to the region grow considerably over the past couple of years. If that trend is going to continue then further infrastructure is required to support the industry. Hotels are key to that, and with Hilton Worldwide we know we have the right brand and management partner to make this hotel an integral part of the travel industry in the region.”

He added: “We’d like to commend the leadership of the Kurdistan Regional Government for fostering the secure and pro-investment environment that has been the catalyst for the region’s steady growth and prosperity. By making the first major American-sponsored investment in the region’s hospitality sector, we are firm believers in the Kurdistan success story.”
