PORTLAND, Oregon | The City that Sometimes Sleeps (alone)

Disclaimer: many of these photos were taken late at night or very early in the morning. It is by design that there are not a lot of people shots or activity in general. I haven’t been feeling that type of thing recently and wanted to show a slightly different take than my usual mix. Just wanted to try to head off some of the “where are all the people?” comments. There is plenty of street activity in downtown Portland and elsewhere in the city - see my previous Portland threads for more shots of people, crowds, hustle, bustle, etc.

Here are links to my last 4 photo threads…
Portland (November 2010)______Portland (October 2010)_________Phoenix (August 2010)__________Phoenix (July 2010)

And this one…

With some musical background if you’re interested

Love it!
Perfect soundtrack too. Dark electronic music like really suits Portland at night, at dawn or dusk, or when its cloudy so pretty much all the time.

Are you using a SLR w/ a lens or do you just photoshop them afterwards? I'm using a digital camera but I'm curious how people get all the interesting lighting.

yes, I've got an SLR (Canon Rebel XTi). I use a photoshop-type program to process the RAW files. Sometimes I do a little more, like changing the color temperature or bumping up contrast, etc.

Fantastic - I love the way you're always experimenting with different kinds of pictures.

I didn't miss the absence of people shots at all - although having said that, how great would it have been if a guy matching the description had been walking by in the background of this shot!

This is another Sekkle classic! It was great meeting and shooting with you, hopefully it wont be the last time. The Japanese garden shots are some of your best.

Great shots. Love the gritty theme. This actually works without people.
