Did they have to add the word "Field" after "Farmers"? Just sounds hokey, Farmers Field, like someone is out there with a plow planting corn or something. Couldn't they call it a "stadium" or "event center"? Oh well, I'm all for the development and the name probably doesn't make much difference in reality.

Means absolutely nothing. Companies all the time use things that don't add up in order to enhance their rendering. Which is exactly why the Pentominium going up in Dubai is in the LA skyline.

Clearly, the only appropriate team would be the rams, after all, they live on the farmer's field. (Plus the history)

Of course, Id prefer the NFL expanding to 36 teams.

Did you know that in Mexico, you can see more NFL games for free on TV than in the US? While in the US, Sunday has 3 games, in Mexico they air 4. The Monday game is also aired on cable (espn).

I'm glad they are already stressing the fact that 32,000 parking spots already exist and are in operation thus putting away any notions of even more ridiculous amount of parking. (more parking --> more driving convenience --> less need to go Metro)

Suprised with the "5 stops within walking distance" though. Are they referrring to Grand, Pico, 7th street/Metro Center, Pershing Square and Civic Center? In reality, 2 stations are in walking distnace (Pico and 7th street). And I wish they would mention the under-construction Expo Line to Santa Monica and the Purple Line (it really is a 2nd subway, not a branch of the Red Line anymore).

Given that this thing be here in 2015 at the earliest, maybe they're talking about Grand, Pico, 7th street/Metro Center, Pershing Square, and 23rd? And maybe they're assuming that the 5th/Flower station for the Regional Connector is gonna happen after all (do they know something we don't)?

They don't know anything more about the connector than we do. We all know it's coming. EVERYBODY is still unaware about the station status of the 5th/Flower station (again, not critical with an expanded breakout panels to 6th street) <--- another debate.

Grand station will be closer than 23rd street station to Farmers Field.

Farmers has 700M dollars committed to AEG in naming rights over 30 years while the Meadowlands and Jerry Jones' palace in Arlington have yet to secure a corporate sponsor. Good job L.A. Doesn't matter who's team comes to play here in L.A. Football is America's sport and L.A. can now have a legitimate infrastructure to see that the team is healthy and sustainable.

Farmers Field, it's a nice name for a beautiful city I don't care how expensive the tickets are because the convention center needs to improve and move into the 21st century. Also, L.A. Live is just the beginning and now we know it. There's a whole neighborhood to be developed around L.A. Live and yes, Staples Center was the original anchor. The convention center will be nicer, we will have a modern football stadium and the L.A. Live area will be busier.

By fall 2015, we will downtown L.A. will have more residents, more restaurants, more buildings and perhaps more hotels. At that point, DTLA will attract more tourists and their dollars and more locals from the greater L.A. area and their dollars. So, this is a win win situation. AEG is singlehandedly picking the city up and lifting its weight on its shoulders. Bravo to them and congratulations to us as Angelenos! Today is a proud day for the entire city of Angels!

CoffeeBar (6th and Spring, in SB Tower) looks like its almost ready to go! Its got a lot of polish, and definitely going to raise the bar for Spring Street.

OMG I LOVE the exterior! The wood material used will really add something to the neighborhood, which is mostly concrete/stone. It will add a softer touch I think.

I can't wait until The Must opens up in The Continental next year?

I really like the wood too. I've noticed that a lot of the restaurants and markets in Ktown use wood in facades as well. In my opinion, it adds some warmth, provides a nice contrast to the cold concrete, and makes a building feel more "natural", if that makes any sense.

Firm Ditches Santa Monica After 20 Years

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - Gensler, a global giant in the architecture, design and planning industries, has signed a 12-year lease to move into City National Plaza in Downtown after more than 20 years in Santa Monica.

The firm designed the Ritz Carlton/J.W. Marriott hotel at L.A. Live, is handling an overhaul of the 7+Fig shopping center and is among three finalists to design AEG’s proposed NFL stadium in South Park.

Gensler will take the top two floors of the “Jewel Box,” a three-story building between the twin 52-story towers of Thomas Properties Group’s City National Plaza. The Gensler space currently measures 32,000 square feet, but the firm plans to build a mezzanine level that will expand its footprint to about 45,000 square feet.

Farmers Field Numbers Crunching: Stadium Costs, Cap Sales
Thursday, February 3, 2011, by Dakota Smith

The Daily News takes a look at the numbers behind AEG's proposed NFL stadium, reporting that "the stadium's price tag now stands at $1.35 billion, [AEG CEO Tim] Leiweke said. That number is nearly double the $725 million it was widely reported that AEG said the stadium would cost when the company issued a request for proposals in November."

More from the paper:

"The $725 million figure strictly referred to 'building' the stadium, Leiweke said. By his own estimate, it will cost 'a billion and a half dollars' before a single game can be played when you add all cost involved in constructing the stadium at its proposed site - $1.35 billion - and another $150 million to buy into a team.'" Majestic's proposed stadium costs $800 million, in part because it's built into the side of the hill. Meanwhile, one of the reasons it's more expensive to build in Los Angeles, than say, Dallas, is that building costs, including labor, are higher here.

And on the topic of public money? "Experts say developers frequently underestimate how much public funding will be needed to build a stadium, according to industry experts and academics in the sports economics field." There is the cost of police for the stadium, points out the News.

Again, AEG has repeatedly said no public money would go towards the stadium, so perhaps they'll be putting in money for any security measures?

Meanwhile, a press release put out today by a firm hired by AEG states that all of the "Farmers Field" hats, t-shirts and other gear available at the LA Live store sold out at Tuesday's big press event.

Asked how many items sold, Ben Mann, who works at Beck Media & Marketing, says the number was "in the thousands." The LA Live store is ordering more, according to the release.

And on the topic of marketing: Farmersfieldsucks.com has already been registered, the name taken on February 1st. Monkeying by Majestic or AEG protective move?

Certainly a question better suited for the city discussion forum. However, there is a direct correlation. I would like to know what the poverty rate in downtown is compared with the rest of Los Angeles. Also, what the average median income is for downtown as a whole and broken down by downtown neighborhood. I sort of know where the wealth is concentrated in downtown and how it is divided and where it is spread out. Nonetheless, I would like to look at some statistics with data linked to geographical areas broken down to specific neighborhoods or blocks. I know these statistics exist. However, I have never looked at such data for the city of Los Angeles, particularly broken down in this manner. This data directly impacts where developers plan to erect residential towers and exactly which downtown block and which specific plot of land that developer chooses to watch his tower rise on.
