Cut to low Ridership TTC routes, leads to cut in core service on major routes
So the TTC Commission has been trying to spin the upcoming bus routes cuts as cutting service to low ridership routes that hardly carry anyone.
However one thing the Commission never dealt with was the cutting of lower ridership route branches on major routes. The cutting of these branches is now going to lead to reduced service on the core of the main routes. An interesting note is that while some of these branches carried small numbers of people on their small route deviation, once they entered the core route they carry a lot of people.
So now people on a number of main routes are going to be facing a service cut come May.
I went through the TTC service guide, and this is how the service will play out in May.
Remember there is only really a cut to frequency on the common portion of the route. However for some routes like Eglinton West and Wilson this means almost the entire route, as the branches were near the end of the route.

A note about this route. I take the 86D branch sometimes. And last night at 10 pm, the 86D bus was standing room only along the common portion of the 86 route. So with the cut, that means that those riders will be jammed into the already crowded 86 regular route.
