Another way to look at it. Of the total aggregate population growth:

Ontario accounted for 45%, Quebec 19% and BC 16%.

Together, these three provinces experienced 80% of the country's total population growth!

Another way to look at it: together, these 3 provinces already constitute 75% of the country's total population! (ie: you'd kind of expect this unless massive demographic shifts were going on)

Lets call them the big three.

Yes, of course 75% of Canada's population already resides in the big three, and they have been seeing 80% of the growth. Therefore I forecast that the big three will soon have 80% of the population

In other somewhat interesting news, the Philippines has overtaken China as the main source of new citizens for BC.

Actually that's far more interesting news. I suppose this is a reflection of the Hong Kong money finally being tapped out.

I find it interesting because Winnipeg has always had a rather large, well integrated Filipino population. I wonder how it will work out for BC. Are they settling mostly in Vancouver?

Is that some good news anyway ? ... Not sure at all. I'm mostly for proportional growths... Right now it's not fair, it should be... but, c'est la vie, forget it

Indeed, except for NFLD/LAB (which I thought was finally experiencing a net in-migration). Maybe they were trying to escape Danny Williams?

Sorry for your optimism but Statscan says : According to these rates, the population of the province would increase by 79,816 during the year 2010-2011, an average increase of one unit every 6 minutes and 35 seconds. At this rate, the population of Quebec would reach 7,987,191 by July 1st, 2011.

-------------

Finally, we'll probably reach the 8 Million mark around September 2011.

Just take a look :

I'm glad Stats Can considers me to be "one unit".

Well first, Montreal will never hit 4 million unless the province get 8 Million.

Second, according to the last numbers of StatsQc, Montreal was close to 49% of the province.
And 1% of the total population is around +/- 80 000 peoples.

So finally, when the Province will around 8 100 000. Then my guess for 4 Million is at the end of 2012.

------

If my calculs are right, Montreal is around +/- 3 870 000 right now.

Is Montreal still the second largest French speaking city in the world ?
(I can't think of any that would have surpassed it)

YAWN......

Call me when Ontario hits 17 million people, as only then would we have added 10 million people in this province from the day I was born.

That will be a happy day.

technically, Abidjan and Kinshasa beat Montreal on this account (but many still consider Mtl in 2nd place on account of the vast majority speaking French)
