Visiting Seattle at the beginning of August

I'll be visiting Seattle for the first time in Late July or early August this year and I was hoping people can suggest a good downtown hotel that is a reasonable walking distance to all the sights. I don't need anything fancy, just a decent clean hotel with reasonable rates.

What aside from all the main touristy things would people recommend visiting? are there any events in the city around the end of July early August worth checking out?

Thanks in advance

What's a reasonable rate for you?

There are some Seafair events including a big parade Downtown the last weekend of July. Not super exciting...

Less that $150 a night would be nice, and from Hotels.com that looks to be achievable, sadly I won't even come close to that when I'm in Vancouver, the price difference in hotes is actually really surprising.

The Executive Hotel Pacific looks like a pretty good deal - I found $119/night:

It's right next to the Central Library and walking distance to pretty much all of the tourist attractions. I don't know anyone who's stayed there recently. Maybe other folks on the forum do (or folks from Vancouver who travel down this way).

Looks like you could do the Sheraton or the Warwick for $160-$175.

For Vancouver are you familiar with The Sylvia? That's where a lot of folks from Seattle stay when they head north. Rates start at $129/night. Link:

Thanks Seaskyfan, my girlfriend convinced me that we should try a Hostel, so i'll be staying at the city Hostel. The thing I need to know now is where to park my car where it won't get broken into or stolen.

Depending on when you're here you might be able to do street parking (free after 6pm and all day Sunday) and/or surface lots. The hostel might have specific recommendations or be able to recommend a secure garage if you're concerned. My experience is that as long as you don't leave anything visible in your car you should be ok, but I usually don't leave my car Downtown overnight.

I live in Downtown Calgary, so I'm definitely familiar with not leaving anything worth stealing in my car. A friend of mine had his car broken into for a snickers bar an some change one time.

Anyway, there's a lot behind the hostel, but unfortunately i'm going to have to pay market rates to park there as I'm there during the week. How much is parking in Seattle?

Cheers,
