Make a Photo Montage of your City/Town/Village

Yawn. I'm tired of seeing those old Canadian Wikipedia city montages. I sometimes wish they could change/be up-to-date, (Montreal should be able to have a montage) like the Eurasian cities. Here, you piece together photos of city landmarks, skylines, etc. and put them into the normal city montage you see in Wikipedia(which I'm just too much of a lazy bum to). Feel free to remind me if there's already a thread on this, unless it has over 1000 posts.

I think he's referring to the Wikipedia article montages.

Ours isn't so bad right now, a little boring though. Hopefully this is better:

Ha, oh wow, that is pretty awful. You've certainly got enough good photos of your own to make a new one though.

I actually preferred signalhillhiker's original montage with the stuff melting into each other.

If I sacrifice a few pictures to the Creative Commons Gods and create a new montage, can I add it to Wikipedia?

I'm pretty sure you can as long as the pictures are yours. I'm not sure my collection of pictures of Montreal is good enough to do the same, that's too bad. (I would need to ask permissions, which can be tricky)

Great montage, although I would keep the Saddledome up-to-date. But nonetheless definitely not bad.
That's the new calgary science center, right by Deerfoot across where the Zoo is

Its called the (telus) Spark centre. Its pretty neat in there, very slick and clean. They have some great stuff in there, didn't try the food though, and don't think I'd make a second trip out of it. I would have loved to go there as a kid.

They moved there from the old location, which was this dome-like building downtown.

Ottawa's is ok, just though I would put a little artistic flavor in it

-Downtown Ottawa
-Ottawa valley seen from Gatineau Park
-Samuel de Champlain Statue, Major Hill Park, with Place du Portage in the background
-Canal Rideau skating rink
-Random taxi cabs with Peace Tower in the background
-Changing the Guard, Parlement Hill
-Tulip Festival

Alternatively

-Parlement Hill
-Centennial Flame
-Ottawa/Gatineau skyline
-Canal Rideau skating rink, with Château Laurier in the background
-Chinatown gate
-Old plants in downtown Gatineau with Place du Portage in the background, biggest governmental complex in the world after the Pentagon
-Meech Lake, Gatineau Park

A city of 4 million and still no montage, Montreal definitely needs one. I am trying to work on something, but if someone can help me finding some pictures which are free of rights that would help, or pictures the author agreed to share. Anything I can find on wiki commons is free of rights I think? (by that I mean, I can use anything I find there?)

I'm pretty sure you can, as long as you reference the original file.

Also anything on Flickr under Creative Commons (tick both boxes in advanced search).
*Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content
*Find content to use commercially
*Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon
For the skyline, I tend to find day shots preferable (without using any shots already in the Montreal article).

I removed this one from the Montreal article infobox because I found the montage subpar (the images themselves are excellent, but not really good as a montage). I like the Tour de la Bourse but, I don't think it deserves to be that prominent either. Trudeau airport isn't even in city of Montreal.

^ I agree, daytime pictures are preferable, and we need something that is representative of the city. This montage was bad.

I came across this pano I took 2 years ago. I thought it was nice with the river, the casino and Mont Royal in the back, the problem is the casino was still undergoing renovations. I would need your opinion, MTLskyline or anybody else. Should use it in the montage? Should I photoshop the cranes out of the pic (I'm pretty good with PS so you wouldn't even know)? Crop the pano so we just see downtown? Or just forget about it and find something else? Good daytime skyline shots (and free or rights) are not so easy to find.

I'd just crop it to only show DT so it is more prominent in the montage. The vantage point in that pic is fantastic. Shows a great view of most of the major towers plus some of the older skyscrapers too which I consider a huge plus. I'd go for it.

Nice shot! I do like this angle, as it's different than the typical Mount Royal shot, none of the major skyscrapers are hidden and Mount Royal is visible. I think it could be interesting to keep the whole shot, but Photoshop out the cranes.

If you were to crop, you'd have to figure out where downtown ends. Maybe enough just to crop out the Casino?

Was this taken from the roughtop of Le Sans Soucy in Saint-Lambert by any chance?

The buildings there look all the same to me, but yes I think it was this one.

So I guess no one is going to make one of Montreal then?
