Traffic Patterns in Downtown Halifax

Quote:
Sackville and Lower Water streets to be one-way only

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-s...s-one-way.html

Some key streets in downtown Halifax will soon become one-way only.

The biggest changes are Sackville Street, which will go only downhill from Brunswick Street, and Lower Water Street, which will go only northbound toward the Casino Nova Scotia.

There will also be some smaller one-ways added.

Most of the changes will be in place by mid-September. Lower Water Street will switch to a one-way in October, and the remaining changes will be done by March.
Phase I
Effective September 19, 2011

Exactly. It ends at Sackville Street - two blocks!! from a major transit terminal!! WTF? The November 2010 plan showed the lane continuing past the ferry terminal, but this update seems to end it abruptly. I can not possibility see the logic in this. This is HRM at its best.

Most bicycle lanes seem to around here. Of course, since almost nobody uses them, it hardly matters.

Your ignorance is almost comical.

Brunswick might not be the most popular route but nearby lanes on South Park are packed with cyclists. If the burb's have 20+ an hour in sections, the core is multiple times more. There's a bike rental shop at the southern end of Lower Water which will see business increase with some infrastructure.

Keith we might never agree on anything but remember there are bicycle cops and they love to target large black SUV's. Bicycle lanes are beneficial to everyone. It gets bikes out of the traffic lanes and increases safety for all users.
