Has snitching gone too far?

On my way home from work today, I heard an interview on the radio with a lady stating that she had complained about a bus driver who had stopped his bus at the liquor store where he made a purchase. Although this is against OC Transpo policy, it was also explained that bus drivers are permitted to stop their bus at a store to use the washroom or buy a coffee or presumably make any other purchase. It was also explained that the bus was empty.

To me, although this was a violation of policy, I don't really see why this was even newsworthy, let alone, meriting a radio interview. After all, it is not as if the bus driver was caught drinking liquor on the bus. I frankly don't care if the bus driver picked up a bottle of wine for dinner. He didn't even inconvenience any passengers.

We should not be encouraging such minor complaints and we should not be blowing things out of proportion.

See the thing is you're not looking at the big picture, which is that the Ottawa Citizen is making a big fuss about these complaints because they are an inherently conservative media outlet that loathes any sort of well-organized publicly-provided service such as public transit. By constantly reminding the public of OC Transpo's mistakes, they are contributing to a grand plan that has been going on for decades, of which the Citizen is but a tiny part, to make the voting public eventually believe that all public service providers are so incompetent that their services should all be privatized.

The Citizen's dastardly plot is practically... machiavellian

But I think you are right.

I think it has and its not just in terms of buses some sseem to feel they need to complain when they see a police car or even a rogers or bell truck parked and the workers are still in the car or truck.

I would have sympathy for the bus drivers had they not held out entire city hostage not so long ago. They make ridiculous salaries for relatively unskilled workers, enjoy amazing benefits, and continue to abuse the system with respect to scheduling and sick leave. I expect an employee in such a situation to follow the rules, act in a professional manner at all times, and maybe even smile once in a while. So go ahead and snitch as I think we need to start weeding out the "bad apples" at OC Transpo. They lost a transit customer (me) after the strike and won't be seeing me again.

The official arbiter ruled management was at fault, not the union. The union in fact tried to avert a strike. The rest of your argument is null.

I wouldn't mind seeing the union busted, as it would save significant money to taxpayers and allow for increasing service while also reducing taxes.
